Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Rare Maytag electronic Toploader

Other than the rarity, the only real advantage of this was, it’s more versatile, cycle, selections, parts are in LA for the controls, but they were pretty reliable.

Given how hard it is to find vintage machines in Hawaii it might be a good thing to get if it’s reasonable.

Just have to realize it won’t work anywhere near as well as the Macgomery ward Norge machine that you used to use.

I got this washer an along with the matching TOL dryer from the original owners in 2016 who never had kids, so very low mileage. First thing I did was a ground up resto on both and swapped in a fully rebuilt pitman transmission in the washer along with a Powerfin agitator. My only complain is a cold spray rinse in every cycle (at least it's still 1 full minute in these) like all Maytags from 1984-2006 but other than that, it's a very flexible washer with a good amount of options. The electronic controls on these are way WAAAY overbuilt by todays standards and hold up extremely well but I would still pull the plug in the event of a lightning storm. Be very gentle with the electronic touchpads and they'll last a long time. If my memory is correct, the wash cycle can be extended up to 19 minutes with a 6 minutes deep rinse, so yeah, these can come close to destroying your clothes just like a Norge if the cycles times are maxed out.

If you want the machine to be gentle, just put the Load Sensor or Dependable Care agitator in with a long stroke helical transmission.

Power Flex Agitator?

Now I am familiar with most of Maytag's lineup until the Dependable Care launched. After that I don't know anything besides my own LAT4914. What is the Power Flex agitator?
