A question about GE electric fry pans.

This is something I just don't understand?? I have several older GE electric frying pans, the trouble is, I have over 25 controls and NONE of them work??? These are the odd looking ones with a very thin probe, is there some kind of defect in these that makes them go bad, I'm sure they worked when new, I really like the looks of the GE pans but cant use any of them..ALL the controls just get hotter and hotter no matter the setting, several of these controls were new in the box, no matter, they didn't work any better???? Anyone know??

are the GE frypans controls like the one in this photo?  I've heard that they can be problematic, but honest to goodness, I have a slightly later version of the frypan shown that, no word of a lie, I rescued from a neighbour's trash back in 1977 and have been using ever since!   I may have a spare so if this is the one that's giving you trouble, please let me know.

Possibilities

I've never had one of those GE controls fail, but in general:

1) If there's a poor connection internally, they will heat up from the higher resistance.

2) If the pan's calrod connections have oxidised over the years, same thing and little heat in the pan.

You can check both easily. It's just a thought.

With a picture, I may be able to find one in the gruft and send it to you. No promises - GE seems to have made 99 versions of this, but I'd be happy to look.

Hans, I've never been able to use my Mother's GE skillet because of failing controls.  I do remember that Mom replaced her control in the 70's.  But when I last went to use it it just got screaming hot!  I took the control to a small appliance repair shop and was told that there is no way to repair them and no replacements.  I've always wanted the matching saucepan... G
