a rainy nite for the kitchenaid

drove to columbus and bought and picked up the kitchenaid portable front load model today, it's a custom. looks great, tub is really good, racks like new, motor looks great!

only problem my truck broke down halfway home and it started raining really hard. wrapped plastic bags around motor and dryer motor but had to have truck towed 50 miles in the pouring rain and had to flip dishwasher on it's side before tow started. so motor was definately exposed to a lot of rain even though it had plastic around it.

when i got home i was too tired and too pissed to deal with it so i threw a tarp over it and it will be sittin in the rain all nite, will unload tomorrow, will dry it out then.

if motor bearings go out due to the moisture i will hunt for a new motor, they are still out there, just bought one last fall, new.

so this was my first fiasco in picking up a dishwasher. i'll blame it on the fact that the truck is a dodge! wish i could carry these machines in my jeep wrangler, the truck and the pontiac (that also broke down last week) would be gone! or better yet shame i can't carry em on my motorcycle!

oh well, life goes on

If it's any help.

I brought home a machine once and was trying to beat the rain. Made it almost all the way home and drove through a few downpours. I brought the machine in and let it dry out for 4 days. It ran perfect. If you have a air compressor, maybe lightly blow some air in and around the motor and valves below. Eddie

It may not be so bad! I once rescued a washer from a flooded basement (my parent's GE V12), let it dry out for a couple of days, and it was just fine!
BTW, which model is this? I am starting to get itchy about acquiring a KA of my own soon...

it's a portable kitchenaid custom, model kdc-57. bought it off some college kids at ohio state. they asked 250 for it, gave em 100. it has been in storage most of it's life i was told and it looks that way too. only the top needs a refinish job, everything else looks new.

brought it in today, took all the plastic off the motor and started it up, motor sounds liike new, ran it thru a cycle to help dry it out, although motor did not seem to be wet at all when i took it off truck.

about broke my back lifting it, these portables are heavy!!!

have a small problem in the fill area, doesn't fill properly but that's an easy fix. either the fill valve or the pressure switch or the hose itself, it's tryin to fill.

so i guess a little rain didn't hurt it after all. ofcourse it didn't, it's a kitchanaid!

Glad to hear a little water didn't bother a well-made machine! And it sounds like you got a good deal, too - congratulations!

Check the Solenoid Screen on the Fill Valve.

The Regency "La Regena" had issues as the women told me it didn't clean as well as it used to. I took off the hose (As it was a Portable), and found the sediment strainer was packed. I cleaned it off and eventually replaced it and the machine turned into the Original "Hurricane in a Box".
That Machine has been cleaning just as New as it was UnCrated.

that's what i'm thinkin too, i tested it thru all fill cycles with the door open and it is indeed filling, just not much. so the electrical components are fine, just isn't getting a good fill. i'm going to take the fill solonoid valve off tonite when i get home from work and clean it out. it has to be a clogged screen or otherwise clogged valve.

other than that it runs like new!
