Hy guys!
Somewhere in the early 90ties my mother bought a fridge form the place she worked. It was than brand new. It's a Liebherr refrigarator, 70cm wide, 65cm deep, 150 cm high. The doorseal is completly gone... but yet my parents don't want to replace it. It's impossible to find a fridge that has the same capacity and dimensions on the European market. Last year I called the Liebherr company, if they had a replacement for that doorseal. Apparantly they changed the dimensions, the doorseal they brought over and wanted to install was to large so it would not seal the bottom of the door. There is still some vacuüm in the fridge when you want to open it. But it runs almost constantly. Anyone any idea how to make a custom made doorseal?

Have no pic's of my fridge... my sister smashed the camera into pieces...
But I've found this pic.

Send me the model number and serial number if you have it.
I will check Kinnseher here in Munich. They have quite a few older gaskets.

Generally speaking, if you have a vacuum, then the seal is working. It may be that the thermostat has failed, leaving the compressor on all the time.

Or, the mechanism has gotten dirty.

Or, there may be fan to blow the "hot" air away from the coils which has failed.

Check those.

Liebherr buys in many components (like Miele) from B/S/H so that might be a possible solution, too.

Good luck . . .

Has the unit had any trouble with frosting up? A bad doorseal will let in moisture and can cause this as the defrost timer isn't set for a constant inrush of outside air.

You might also check the defrost timer if the unit is running too much.

OK, here's two possible solutions in case we can't get an original for you, see the link.

One - a universal door gasket set
Two - a set of clips which can be used to shorten some but not all gaskets.

They were closed when I got out of class this afternoon, but I will try calling them Monday for you to ask, is you like.

Check out their website, they have good stuff.

Let me know,

Hai panthera... My mom decided to call our electrician and ask him. He found a replacement, regulated the thermostat et voila, it works flawless again. He said when we want to get rid of it we need to bring it to a shop, because it's a fridge with the forbidden cooling agent. When we do we get -15euro discount on any fridge (european regulated).
Thx Panthera for everything!!
