Well I need some help deciding on a Royal.

My friend wants to thin out the few dozen royals he has in his collection. I told him to keep a look out for some pre 880s ones.

Well he came up with these two and said take my pick.

One is an 880 (left one) and the other one is an ?886?

Which one is the better choice?

Ok. Ive decided on the left one (the 880)

For one its a 3 amp model, vs a 6 amp-which is what the right one is. (so quieter)

it also runs. The right one apparently does not, he found out.

Now here is a question. Can I use 3-in-1 to put into the oiling ports on this? I think I have the motor bottle (blue?)

Thanks!

If you ahve the 3-1 MOTOR oil and its non-detergent-should be OK.Don't use "detergent" type oil-the kind of oil used in engines. For the Royal that doesn't run--check the switch or the motor brushes-sometimes the motor brushes stick in their brushholders-preventing contact to the communtator.I would take BOTH machines!!!Oh yes-sometimes a lead in the handle falls fromn the switch. This would cause the cleaner not to run-happened on one I got.

I would grab the 880, it apears the 886 is missing the Adjust-O-Rite.

The 880 should have the oil caps for the bearings, and external brush holders for easy replacement.

Thanks guys. Im getting the 880. Whenever I can meet up with him. Ill be picking up my hoover 61 and convertible special 31 from storage too. Will have to see about the pink convertible 65 base too.

Whichever machine I picked I would get the belt cover. He said the 880 was missing it. So the 886 one will be put on it.

Hehe. I used to own a royal. Model 994. It was completely remanufactured with new everything. Was a very nice machine. But loud.

Still down in the vacuum shop on the display shelf!

Cant recall what I traded it in for.

Love Royals

Still have the 886 that I purchase brand new back in about 1987.

I supplied my daughter's former gymnastics facility with a pair of 10amp models, after blowing the owner's mind by cleaning her entire 20,000 sq/ft gym with mine one night. She had a closet full of grenaded modern plastic cr@p vacuums, including a Dyson.

We've moved to a new gym and I just supplied them with an 886 last week because their professional janatorial service is doing such a bad job on the Floor Event floor and the girls are complaining about how gross it's getting.
