I'm weeping now as I type this!!!! Don't people realize that even with the 18 series that they were still considered the cadillac of dishwashers???? I'm praying for it

I have actually seen these in worse shape, with the bottoms actually rusted through!
These dishwasher are old now. Think of a family using them 2 or even 3 times a day for close to 30 years. They have run their course. We are lucky that we are able to find machines that were not run this many times a day, and often only ran once a week. Makes a big difference.
As far as the single water valve solenoid, it is a replacement. Hobart went to the single solenoid after a certain time period. Steve will know the exact date. Usually the "extra" two wires are cut off or taped back.
It is a very good parts machine. If you decided to replace the motor, and the timer is good, and there are no leaks...it would run for many more years. The tub looks fine, and would clean up well.
Good find if you ask me.
Not many dishwashers made it this long, and they always look much worse if they did when made by "other" brand names.
Thanks for the pictures.

My grandmother had that model in stainless steel. Such a shame this dishwasher is in such poor condition. I hope you can restore it to it's former glory.

Good luck,
James

you can get parts

thru hobart, including motors. i might even have an extra tub i don't need off a 19 model but since you are in maine it prob is too far away to consider. that rusted sump can prob be sanded down and coated with products to turn rust into metal and then painted with rustoleum. again all pump parts are available.

i see a new life for it if you want to restore it. if you e mail me i can tell you where to go on the web to find those parts thru hobart. most are prob available at parts stores too.

don't give up it that beautiful old machine. and by the way, racks are almost always available in e bay. although the racks don't look that bad to me, that's prob the least of your worries in fixing it.

good luck

oh yea

my later model kitchenaids don't have the twin fill valve either! gotta be a time related change.

Thanks for the Support

I have another KDS 18 with a Good cabinet/Wash Chamber/Sump.
I mean don't people look in their machines and see the rust starting ? This will be my first parts machine.
I remember years ago that if you bought a Superba "You were Rich".

Makes you cry....

Oh, Eddie, how sad to find a 'dream machine' that has been so carelessly used! This is so typical of appliances left in rental properties, though. People think "It's not mine, so I don't have to treat it well".
Still, you more than likely find the parts you need to restore this dishwasher. Lots of KA parts turn up for sale on eBay and elsewhere.
Think of it a resurrection project!!

Thanks for you condolences.

I think this machine after a test will be a true parts donor. Everytime I look at her I say EEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKK !!!!
Oh well, as everyone knows here it's just a Whatever to some people, but to us it's a "Sigh"
