A Simple, good Cold Weather recipe..

My Aunt jeans Russian Tea, I remember this from my childhood, She always made it at Christmas, As a kid I thought it was a real treat.
2 cups lemon juice
3 cups orange juice
3 to 4 cups strong sweet iced tea.
3 cinnamon sticks
1 tsp whole cloves
Sugar to taste..it takes a lot, usually abot 1 to 2 cups
Bring to a boil and simmer, serve hot, I remember this in a Corning percolator with a candle underneath, Corning made a warmer that used a candle.

My grandmother also made this. And yes, it was one of the treats of the holiday season, along with her candied orange peel and her apricot-coconut confections.

Percolator Punch

I have a recipe for a hot punch that is made in an electric percolator.

 

1qt. apple cider

1pt . cranberry juice

1pt. orange juice

¼ to ½ cup sugar 

1 tbsp whole allspice

1 tbsp whole cloves

3 cinnamon sticks, broken up

Put first 3 ingredients in a 10 or 12 cup electric percolator.  Put remaining ingredients in the basket.  Perk like you would for coffee. 

 

This is a favorite in our house all winter long.

I remember having to convey a request from my mother to another home economist for this and, in the early 60s, there was a recipe that used Tang! I like tea, hot or cold and I like fruit juices, but not Constant Comment or Russian Tea. I like cinnamon, cloves & allspice, especially cinnamon toast and all three in applesauce spice cake, but not in tea.

I have the Corning warmer with the candle. It is black plastic. I also have the perk and metal warmer that went with the buffet service pieces for the Centura line.

As a child I remember mom making a orange tea recipe that used Tang. It also used instant dehydrated tea and some cinnamon and cloves. Constant Comment tea always reminds me of this. I think we drank it cold usually.
