The expected arrival of a houseguest this weekend prompted me to get moving on some curtains for the bedroom. I picked up some material at the Kula Hospital thrift store. Then got out my trusty Singer Featherweight. My Mom bought this at a garage sale for 15 bucks over twenty years ago. This sewing machine has been with me everywhere, even when I lived in an Airstream travel trailer.

I had not used it in ages. I was happy to discover that it still runs smooth as silk even fast or slow she goes good!

had better kiss you for those curtains

Kiss? have yall seen the PRICE of these featherweights on eBay? for what these go for...

David.....

So good to see you post again!!

You sew way better than I will ever be able too!! The curtains turned out great! I love the Featherweight too! Will definitely keep my eyes opened at the thrifts for one!!

Hugs to you and Dennis!

Very nice Featherweight! I was at an estate sale more than a year ago and there were 34 of them among other machines. I bought one of the very first FW's from the early 30's. The lady collected sewing machines and refurbished and restored all of them and the one I have is an incredible performer. I was shocked and financially drained when I discovered all the fun accessories they had for the FW's - folding tables, cabinets, etc.

Great thread and good to see another sewing fan!

I tried making boxers in home ec once and i got a "d".. At least i didn't have to carry around the mechaincal baby

Singers

One of my housemates has an interest in old sewing machines. He has an assortment of Singers from 1904 to sometime in the 1940s. He just got a New Royal from ????. Yes, he actually does sew on the 1904 treadle Singer. Mineral spirits are great for cleaning out the guts, followed by sewing machine oil to keep things running smoothly. Oil old sewing machines regularly, like the instructions suggest, and they will perform wonderfully for years.

All sewed up,
Dave
