Do any of you have a cat that snores? My oldest cat Ashley is about 18 years old and makes the strangest noises when she sleeps, she snores, squeaks, and squeals, it's kind of funny at times.

A cat I had when I was a kid til into my 20's snored as she got older. I had to have her put down a few months shy of her 19th birthday. But yeah, a few other cat's I've had have snored. It is quite comical.

My cat has been snoring since it was a kitten. Almost 9 years later I still find it odd and comical at the same time.

Yes

I had a ginger tom who didn't, his sister did.
My little white cat snores up a storm and has since her earliest days.

When a cat who didn't used to now snores, maybe something is not quite right? I'd read up on it (that's what's so great about the internet) and then if you think there might be a problem, talk to a vet.

Probably not tho - some folks snore, some don't.

snoring no, but...

Sometimes "muffin" 11 y/o this Spring, has a respiratory sound; like bad adnoids. Once in a while, however there will be some whimpers, squeaks, & squeals; so i figure he is dreaming.
What amuses me is somtimes he purrs so loud, the sound kind of emits from his nose. And if he jumps down to a lower level, while purring its kind of a snorting sound.

I have 10 inside cats and 38 outside that take care of.

And most DO snore, some quite loudly.. and have had some that also purr while asleep. The outsideres number variy from week to week from a hi of 53 to a low of 22 People seem to think the dead end street off a back alley is a wonderful place to put them out. I buy cat food by the pallet for them.

Mercy, yes!

My late LJ had an array of snores. A very deep one for when he was exhausted, and a different one for merely tired. It was an absence of snore that alerted me to take him to the vet the last month of his life.

Boris does snore, but he does not have the range LJ did.

I find it comforting, and endearing.

I think (do not know for certain-) that many mammals snore. When they were children, my nieces had a guinea pig, and it snored!

They're just like us...

...as we get older, we start making strange noises. My 1 year (we think) old cat doesn't snore (yet). My 15 year old dog snores lightly. My previous dog sounded like a chainsaw when he got older.

Sudsman, good on you for taking care of those cats. We think my little Ben was dumped, as the area where he was had no residential units nearby, all commercial. And the little guy was just so sociable and friendly -- for the life of me I cannot figure out how someone can dump a living, dependent being.

Of my 3 cats I would say that Kyle will snore when he is really tired and in a deep sleep. Its not loud at all. Zoe talks in her sleep. She will be sound asleep and then the twitching and low meows start. Willow is funny...she will be sound asleep and nothing and I do mean nothing will wake her. Her tongue will stick out and at first its kinda odd but thats the way she is. All 3 of them are characters.

Cocoa (male Burmese type of Siamese, not pedigree) snores a bit when it's cold and rainy outside and he comes in to sleep inside. He also drools when he's purring and getting the attention he craves, like scratching around his ears.

18 is OLD for a cat! Congrats on keeping one for that long.

Teddy

When I lived in baltimore,MD., I had a manx(Originated in Great Britain's Island of Man and had an "X" Gene deficiancy)who had no tail and he snored up a storm when he slept on his back. He'd get on my chest and dig his paws into my ribs until he laid down and went to sleep. He was the runt of the litter and breeched during birth killing his mother and causing the vet to open her up to remove him.I had to bottle feed all 7 kittens and wean them.He was more like a dog than a cat and was the only one of the seven kittens that had no tail.He was tiny and almost died twice.Once during birth then he fell 4 stories by falling off my ledge at my downtown apartment. He had a bad habit of resting on my window sill and the screan had fallen off one day and he went to roll over and fell right into the parking lot on the street level. He broke his pelvis and lived to meow about it.He'd fetch, drank out of my toilet falling in numerous times and answered my phone when it rang.He would also wake me up before the alarm went off whether I had it set to go off or not. He'd wrestle with his strong paws and walked with a leash.I found two other manxes and named them Tom and Jerry but they were more "stuck up" than Teddy and didn't like to play like he did.
