Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

And YES I HAVE scrubbed toilets to earn a buck, thank you!

Let's do it like Japan. Give us 17% of your income. PERIOD.
Tax the living hell out of corporations.

Which services would I like to give up?

War
Feeding those that don't want to work.
Allowing wefare mothers to have welfare babies.
Getting involved in all the world's politics and battles,
when we have had Americans in this country for 10 generations that still can't read, write, speak / pronounce or spell in (standard Amercian) English.

How about we focus on education, infrastructure, a better immigration policy, long-term energy and self-sufficiency goals, teaching culture, manners, etiquette, CLASS and kindness in our schools. Making EVERYONE work to the degree fo their abilities. There are toilets to be scrubbed, grafitti to be eradicated, bridges and tunnels and roads to be repaired, garbage to be picked up, weeds to be picked, lawns to be mowed. Walls and rooms and floors to be scrubbed. Why are we allowing outside cutltures to come in and do this? Believe me we pay for that in the long run.

Sevices I don't mind paying for, but transfer payments to the UNDESERVING, I could do without.

Right ON !!

I refused to sign a paper so that a worker could get food stamps yesterday.. She has one 12 year old child, who is alwasy in trouble in school. husband works at a sister hospital under another name and makes more than 800 a week. She avgs a little over 400 a week take home, She drives a brand new lexus and most of her clothes are from Dillards. She bitches all the time that she has to work too hard and refuses to work over when we need her too. And for your bleeding heart do gooders to chime in HELL NO I AM N O T SORRY !!!

She drives a brand new lexus and most of her clothes are fro

Whoa, someone needs to get their damn priorities straight!

I sure see this happening more and more as time goes by, especially with the younger generations. A lot of my friends blow their money on stupid shit (instead of paying their bills) and then bitch for hours how they never have any money and are deep in debt with credit card companies constantly pestering them. Sorry, but I have no pity for that bullshit!!

Suds, you are an honest man. There are some out there that would of signed her paper, then suggest that she take "them" shopping, for about 50% of the value of the card. I guess your state has the "food card" system, like a credit card. In the old days when food stamps were paper, shoppers would "break" larger value coupons, and get real U.S.A. change, do it enough you have real money to buy detergent, liquor, cigarettes. "Lexus Lady" may have 2 cousins living with her both getting food assistance. It's all been done before. alr2903

Will you run for office? You have my vote.

Dont ya Know a HONEST tell it like it is person cannot ever get in. But he IS JUST WHAT WE NEED !

A little perspective please

As much as it galls me when I see a welfare mother driving around in an Escalade and yapping on the cell phone, what I don't see every day are all of the fat cats with their performance cars, their 4 or 5 domiciles, their useless wives who spend what most of us live on for a year in one day and all of the other FAT that deregulation and "trickle-down" policies have gifted them.

Let's try to remember that welfare for the poor, misused and abused as it is is NOTHING compared to Bush/Cheney welfare for the rich. I'd much rather see my tax dollars have at least a small chance of helping some desperate soul than to feed the bottomless maws of the greedy.

The thing I was taught in my ethnic sub-cutlture was:

"ALL THINGS IN MODERATION", and
"BY ALL MEASURES EXCELLENCE /(BE EXCELLENT)"

As long as there are those in society that believe themselves entitled (i.e pardon the epxression, 'top or bottom of society')the world will be an ugly place.

Toggles, not one of those things is a benefit you receive personally. The question was to provoke thougths of services received that you would sacrifice in return for a lessening of personal tax burdens. And, before you go running for holder of the most menial jobs, I worked in housekeeping in a hospital.

Tom, you bring up an excellent point. I think where the US government has failed is that for most middle-class taxpayers, there are very few services that we either take for granted, such as libraries, police protection, transportation, or services and benefits that apply only to the very poor and and to the filthy rich. In Europe and other countries with more socialized governments, the middle class has excellent health care and public transportation, among other things, to show for their huge taxes.

If any of these services were taken away, given time, we'd all scream bloody murder, but I think it would take a lot of time for most of us to notice. I think this is where the Tea Party morons get their mojo.

Tell IT TOGGLES!

I am a democrat, grew up a republican, and I couldnt agree more, I have to work for what I have,I cant drive a Lexus and wear designer clothes on what I make, but I sure as hell aint on foodstamps either, and I have absolutely no patience with people who want to live here, have all our benefits but expect us to learn their language,...oh HELL no!

I think what we as citizens are going to have to do is hold our representatives more aaccountable for pork barrel spending. The defense contracts that reward factories in legislators' states and districts with taxpayer dollars have to be questioned, especially for things that the Pentagon says it does not want. The irony is that most everyone likes their own representatives because they keep things sweet back home. It's not the people on food stamps that are bankrupting our country. Look at the multi-billion contracts to government contractors like Blackwater, now called Xi, owned by the son of the family that owns AMWAY. Look at the contracts for the company that did electrical work in Iraq that wound up electrocuting our soldiers in the showers.

I still am curious why these suddenly concerned Tea Party people were not yelling and screaming about the nation's economy when people earning large amounts of money were getting the tax breaks, earning large returns on unregulated investments and cheering patriotically while we entered unfinanced wars paid for off budget by emergency appropriations. I remember the rhetoric when those 6 billion dollar emergency war appropriations bills came up for a vote. Those who were against the war were called unpatriotic and worse, accused of taking armor away from our men and women in battle if they did not vote for the funding.

Could it have been because a Caucasian man was President? Maybe? In all of the statistical profiling of the members of the Tea Party, there was no way to measure bigotry.

I will be the first to say our country is in a horrible mess, but I did not suddenly realize it after the November, 2008 elections. I also know how dangerous times of economic disaster can be. You have only to look at Europe in the 30s to see what can happen.

~Toggles, not one of those things is a benefit you receive personally.

Yes my whole point is that I work like a dog to supply EVERYONE ELSE (the "undeserving") with benefits.

Actually I was not able to get help for college. My parents tehcinally earned too much money according to the government and too little money to have any left-over for my schooling.

I walked into my college's finaincal aid office a few times. Met with the supervisors, to no avail. Upon a later visit the supervisors were apparently out. I was called in to speak with a financial-aid counsellor. Would you beleive they had the unmitigated nerve and gall to approach the entire interview in that "other" language? I was effectivley thrown out of the office, unheard.

Now I ask you WHAT WAS THAT?

It was the City University system of NYC. I had to deal with students (in my earlier "requiements" classes) that were also in REMEDIAL English, REMEDIAL Math and quite bluntly, dumber than a box of rocks. Luckily, most could not deal with the academic requirements and eventually dropped-out! I give a lot of credit to the foreign students whose first language is not even remotely like English or Latin-based and they graduate!

Let me tell you antoher story. One always sees during snow-storms poverty-stricken areas complaining on the local news:, " 'They' don't plow enough here; they dont respect us"... and the like. uhm Primary roads come first, secondary roads come 2nd and terciary roads come third.

Now let's look at it this way. In working-class neighborhoods where the residents pay taxes, there is obviously money to use. These ares get public serices. In extremly poor areas, there is a much-eroded tax base. What money come in goes out as various benefits; food-stamps section-8 rent (reduction) vouchers, welfare, etc. So "no" money coming in, tons of money going out AND you want the govt to plow and pave and scrub and fix too? WITH WHAT MONEY?

The sense of entitlement (whether top or bottom of society) is disturbing.

In response to Tom's question, there have been several news stories out this week (NY Times, Time magazine) looking at the demographics of the tea party. Although they claim to represent the majority of Americans, polls show only 18% of Americans back them. (Remember the so-called "Moral Majority?")

They originally organized their group based on opposing taxes, but 52% of Tea Partiers feel the taxes they paid this year "were fair" after Obama's tax cuts.

Although they oppose gov't spending, welfare and most other social programs, they love Social Security and Medicare. The majority of Tea Partiers are white, upper-class, older males. They are prosperous, comfortable guys who only support social programs that benefit them. They are angry and not sure why or what about.

It is wonderful that in our country we have the freedom to protest and express our beliefs and ideas. But IMHO this movement is about partisan politics. Republicans who will spend most of their energy for four years protesting a black democratic president, rather than trying to work together to accomplish something. I'm an independent voter and am not taking sides. The Democrats are just as bad.

It's all about seeing who can make the most noise, raise the most money and get in front of the camera.

The Tea Partiers do make a point or two that resonate with me...most notably fretting over our national debt. But that trend began before this presidency, and one can debate what could have occurred in our nation if our banks and largest companies were not bailed out.

Yes toggles it is too hard for them

They see everything thru the Rose colored glasses and are so out of touch with the real world. Most just Want all of them only want to "dance a little side step"

The truth is, the income gap between the upper few percent and the middle class is the largest it's ever been.

It's not unusual for a CEO to make thousands times more than what the average company worker makes. Does that make any sense?

Meanwhile GE has made record profits but managed to pay zero federal taxes in 2009. This is because they managed to cook the books so that their US operations show a loss, but their international "profits" are in the billions.

Currently I'm paying more in property taxes than I'm paying in federal income tax. And this is in a state with property tax limits! Unfortunately, though, I'm not one of those 48% taxpayers who paid zero federal income taxes (or got a net rebate).

The golden age of the middle class was in the 1950's. The highest income tax bracket was in the 80 to 90 percent range. The economy was generally booming. People had a positive outlook, despite the Cold War, and companies like GM and GE actually made decent, long lasting washers and other appliances. But we also had racial/religious/ethnic inequities, institutionalized discrimination, segregation in the South, and rampant and misunderstood conditions like alcoholism and mental illness.

In any case, perhaps it's just better to be happy to be alive. Even that is a terminal condition.
