First port of call was the Co-Operative CWS shop, a society opened in Rochdale North of England in 1844, you would have had a dividend number (Divi Nu) and you would have selected your goods or asked the shopkeeper to get them for you....

Here Mr Shopkeeper runs a tight ship and once your good have been totted up, from Laundry appliances, lawnmowers, Lino and fires even, he sents your cash and slip up to the cash office.

That street scene looks very appealing!
There was a time when streets were in good repair, and folk took a bit of pride in 'doing their bit' to keep their property in reasonable condition. And the Municipal/Civic Councils planted shrubs and flowers in the parks.
Changed days, and not for the better!
