And moving on with another repair project, many of the Hoover Sloping front 1961 keymatics are suffering from timer advancement issues, these timers are so complicated with a wiring loom of over 130 sectional wires covering the timer, and top and bottom loom banks. Amazing for the day and what now is done on a microchip the size of your thumbnail.

So we need to replace a blown resistor which works in conjunction with the "Timed" prortions of the automated programming.

For its time this was quite unique and to have plugs or banks of wires in large plug on blocks was ahead of the game, when you think after this Hoover went back to individual wiring terminals and not until late 80`s some 20 years later did plugs appear on later timers..

A myriad of colour and confusion, many thanks to Mathew for the switch soldering lessons and to Chris and Phil for the holding of timers / screwdrivers /bolts and brow mopping and a Big Thanks to Steve who decoded all the updated wiring colours enabling us to get the darn thing back together...

More work to be done as the advancement mechanism is sticking at a certain point...

A "Big Thank You" to Alistair for inviting us into his home, its a massive feat of organising and cooking of which he loves to entertain us, for me its as much about the peoples as the appliances. its difficult to arrange big meets now as there are so many of us, but that's not to stop others now stepping up to the mark with mini meets and repair workshops, Until Next Time !!

And finally, a new challenge...

We all know the Hoover Logo, distinguishable around the world. Alas we saw the demise of the great company and while the original Hoover factory of washing machines in Merthyr Tidfyl is open as the European office the town is a shadow of its former self...

A community project has been set up by young people engaging the local community and how to re-build it. So " Made in Merthyr" community project is born. There is a range of merchandise available and we are all encouraged to participate in "advertising" the fact - its become a cult and t-shirts are showing up all over the world, Heres me trying to rock the alternative "Original Made in Merthyr" on the wall of Keymatics !!

I noticed the Ariston toploader. I believe that is a pulsator machine? If you have a picture of the inside, I would appreciate it if you would post a picture of it sometime.

Wonderful time, thanks for sharing these with us, makes many of us want to get on a plane for the next one!

The door boot molding is fascinating, what a great skill to have in your group. Once the mix is perfected, there might be a new career (or at least side job) making boots for all around the world.

kids trick-or-treat in the UK? I know it is not a very big custom in Europe.

I passed out 4 large bags of fun size candy bars in two hours last evening.
I gave each kid 3 to 4 Milky way, 3 Musketeers, Reese Cups, Twix, Hershey bars, M&M's, Snickers, Milk Duds, Whoppers malted milk balls, and Almond Joy.

You guys are very resourceful. It seems that you could design and build a washing machine.

Wow looks like great time, sorry to miss the fun, as it looks now I should be in London again next weekend.

Al is differently a great host, it is amazing you are able to pull off an event while your home is being expanded and renovated.

If any of you guys are around the London area next weekend it would be fun if we could see you.

It was a brilliant weekend and I'm sure I'm still over the limit - detox now in progress. I am in total awe of Dr Mathew and his ingenuity- the door seal moulding and the AEG Lavalux removal tool is just great and those are on top of all his other skills in repairing and making things work properly.

I only took a few photos the first ones show how rammed the washroom has become with lots of treasures which have to be moved around to get in. Chris is still smiling though

Out in the garden, indeed! A true garden of delights with all those marvelous twinnies. I'd be in heaven there with machines I've never had the pleasure of knowing. Would forget to eat or go to bed.

Was remiss when losangles recently joined, asking about wash-ins, telling him we have one or two a year. You laddies seem to have them almost monthly. And you all look so hale and hearty, healthy and happy when you do. Getting over there is high on my bucket list. Cheers until then or until you get stateside again!

Thank you to the hosts for another marvellous weekend - plenty of laughs and wonderful to meet up with everybody again, and of course credit to Al’s excellent catering. As usual it all passes too quickly and before you know it you’re saying goodbye to friendly faces - old and new, and turning back onto the M1 to go home.

Just a few photos I managed to take over the weekend - a quick few of the ongoing work to the English Electric, the Asko H-axis commercial toploader and the always welcome opportunity to admire and use my childhood machines - Grandma’s Hotpoint toploader, Nana’s Hoover A3060 and who can forget Mum’s Hoover A3110 (albeit in the guise of an Electra).

I can hardly believe it is over two weeks ago - so good to have the familiar faces back again. As Mike said, having just had a new central heating boiler installed and the house completely re-wired I was obliged to keep numbers down - but we still had 15! And apart from all the machines there was such a lot of joy and laughter, which is what makes it all worth while.

And indeed, until the next time ........

Louis asked about the pulsator in the small Ariston machine (from 1981) shown in reply 15, so here we are. The wash part of this machine is a direct successor of the Rolls twin tub behind it, which is almost 20 years older. Pulsators or impellers on the base of the tub generally tend to push the clothes out of the wash water but this is counteracted by a constant re-circulation of the water, the jet of which pushes the clothing back down. These machines had quite small capacity, about 4 lb as compared to the 6lb of a Hoovermatic or Servis (Speedqueen twin tub).

Ah thanks Alistair! I had something similar, it had quite a strong wash action. I have never seen such a brown wash tub though, quite a surprise with the white exterior.

It kind of matched the brown accents on the lids and indeed the other Ariston models at the time, as I remember it the earlier Colston models the tub were a sort of mid blue and on the Rolls it was light blue.

Was it an Ariston model you had or some other make?

These Aristons were never sold in the NL AFAIK. I had a smaller round washer. Unfortunately I never made any pictures of it. A few months ago I sent to a thriftstore.
