What Silliness! 300.00

I drink 2 or 3 cafe Americanos ( Espresso and water) every morning. When I make them in my Krups 867, I simply let the espresso brew in to the coffee cup I'll be drinking it out of instead of the mini glass carafe that came with the machine. The espresso and the steam do a fantastic job. and it costs me nothing in addition to the energy I am already using to make my coffee.

How about simply changing a defective mindset?

Why does coffee have to be so hot to the point of burning oneself?

Japanese men are served food first and eat it piping hot. Wmen eat after the men, and as a result eat cooler food. Japanese men have an unexplained higher rate of digestive tract cancers that only appears to be explainable in that men as a class consume food that is too hot (temperature-wise) to be healthy.

Foods and beverages cool down; deal with it!

My Mug Warmer:

I got as a Gift from a local Furniture and Appliance Store, as a Christmas "Thank You" Gift, for being a loyal Customer through the years. It has a Switch to turn it on and off and it plugs into the "USB" Port on your Computer. I've never used it. I just really don't have the space near my Computer Equipment. If anyone would be interested in it, I would be real glad to Ship it to you. E-Mail me your Postal Mailing Address and it will by my Gift to someone else who can use it.

"BTW" the Store's name is Jon's Home Furnishings and sadly, after this coming Weekend, they will be closing their Doors, after 57-years of faithful Business here in Sacramento. Everything must be Sold by the end of this Weekend.

Peace and Kind Regards, Steve

USB cup warmers have always sounded gimmicky to me, like drying your hair with dryer exhaust. I would worry about drawing too much wattage from a USB port. I would plug it in, but to a USB hub, not directly into your computer. Let the hub take the hit, if it gets burn out, you aren't out a logic board... er, a motherboard.

I remember those little cup warmer hot plates. I guess they had their day in the sun. I remember getting one or two of them but being overall disappointed... yes, they did warm up the cup, but they also overheated the coffee. And the one that I tried, at least, quickly lost its warmer plate coating and started to look very tacky after a few uses.

$300 for a cup warming drawer? Another gadget destined for the charity bin...

I've had the same sorts of thoughts. My former roommate was known to plug non-computer gimmicks (like a small fan) into the USB port, and I honestly wondered if it might not shorten the life of the logic board or the power supply. (We're talking laptop, not a desktop with a power supply so big the lights dim when it gets turned on!)

In order to lighten the load by using a hub, I would think it would be necessary to use a hub with its own power supply. I've seen some that don't have a power supply--all power comes from the computer.

I think I still see those electric warming coasters for sale new every now and then.

Isn't that the truth? I'm amazed at how much "hot you must buy this!" stuff turns up, used, next to nothing in thrift shops. Often looking new.

"Japanese men are served food first and eat it piping hot. Wmen eat after the men, and as a result eat cooler food."

Serving men first may be the plan, but does it happen that way?

Growing up, I remember reading some of the Trixie Belden mysteries. Some may not remember/know these--a 1940-1980 something series technically aimed at girls, although there were boys like me who'd read almost anything not nailed down. (Plus, the books were frankly a lot better than the "gender approved" Hardy Boys.)

I remember one book, Trixie and her brother are talking to a woman from a culture where men apparently do get served first. Trixie's brother makes some crack about that. (He and Trixie have a long running battle, so he's probably just doing it to irk his sister.) The woman they are talking to says yes, it's true for her heritage that men get served first. But--she adds--the women do the cooking. And they need to taste before they can say it's good enough for the men. Sometimes, she hints, lots and lots of tasting is necessary.

Does this actually happen? Who knows? But I wouldn't be surprised if some women in "men served first" cultures haven't figured this idea out.
