A weekend in New Hampshire!

We went to visit a friend who has a house in the Great North Woods Region of N.H. this past weekend. He inherited it from his parents who had it built in 1972. Its a cute swiss chalet style house on the ridge of a mountain with FANTASTIC views. As i was exploring the lower level, guess what I found behind these closet doors?

I even took it for a test drive, Sure do miss the "woo-wooooo-wooo" of a Kenmore

That's a lovely set! I love the wood finish on the control panels. From what year are these?

I didn't think. These must be from 1972, right? From when the house was built.

Is the agitator the "golden gobbler?"

I wonder if the softener dispense sits so high as an optical illusion to make the tub look bigger/deeper.

OMG! That is the EXACT model my parents had growing up. I washed literally thousands of loads in that machine for our family of six. Plain old straight vane machine. My mother replaced a Lady K with RotoSwirl agitator with this machine. I was so very disappointed. Her first machine had an interior light, lighted control panel, buttons, knobs, and lots of beautiful chrome. How would anyone feel if that was replaced with THIS. Nevertheless, it was a workhorse of a machine. The only thing it ever needed was a belt. I was long gone from home by the time it died.

I think they are from 73, as that was the year the house was finished and they moved in. I also just put the fabric softner dispenser on for picture purposes, he doesn't use it and it was just sitting on the shelf, thats probably why its sitting high. Its small capacity wise, probably just standard capacity which isn't much. Aparently the both units were sitting on something when he had some painting done. He since has had new carpet put in and lowered the machines to the floor.. I'll have to tease him about his skills as a painter!

That is the exact pair I had, except they were harvest gold. I regret selling them with the house.

It's funny the first thing I thought when I saw them was what year? According to the Sears catalog they didn't make that style plastic console machine(w/ dark colored insert) until 1975. I think 1974 was the first year they made a full plastic console but they were the smaller style. Not as high, not as thick and with a flush console that didn't project above the top.

I have the 1975 catalogs as well, I remember several of these sets when I was growing up - a very popular price-point for Sears weekly sales ads. There was one of these washers, in white, sitting at an old junk store in South Omaha for years and years. SOmething about it didn't work right I was told a long time ago. Now the store is gone and I'm sure the washer went to the crusher. I seem to remember a Roto-Swirl in that one though...
