I have been looking for a 1953 Bendix fridge for about 15 years now... I have never actually even seen one in preson. I have also only found one ad for the fridge.
I was going to scan the ad myself- but then I came across this one on some seller's site.
The ad shows a small cartoonish drawing of what the outside front looks like. A truly unique handle design.
Anyone ever see one of these in person?

I don't think I've ever seen a Bendix anything in person. I like the double door model. Could be a tough item to locate, but you already know that!

White Whale . . .

This is what we used to call my Grandmother's '64 Ford Country Sedan station wagon. It had been ordered without the woodgrain sides, white with a red interior. It was very, very white and very, very large, hence White Whale.

Good luck finding the Bendix, it looks too cool!

Hydralique.......

Your Grandfathers wagon was a Counrty Sedan BECASUE it did not have wood trim. If it would have had the trim it would have been a Country SQUIRE!!!!!!! The Country Squire name was used from 1951 (on the last of the 1949 2 door style woodies) until Ford stopped making wagons in 1990....PAT COFFEY

I would vote with CircleW on this one, crosley "shelvador" (sp), I think crosley had the patent on the shelves in the door, so this Bendix labeled machine, with shelves in the door, must be from the same family? alr2903

crosley

It does have a shared interior with the Crosley for the most part - and possibly the outer skins as well. (Like Circle W mentioned - they were both manufactured by AVCO)
The exterior door handles are extermely unique though.
Probably only used for one year ane then retooled.

I have several 50's Crosley fridges - their interiors were always more on the Cadillac side.
