I rebuilt everything on my Maytag A806. The clamshell gasket started leaking, and it turned out the bolts were loose. I re-tourqued the bolts and they came loose again. I added lock washers and now its tight but the gasket is still leaking.

So I believe that I have to tear it down and replace the gasket. That gasket was so so so so very very very hard to find, and now I can't find another.

Does anyone have one they are willing to part with? Or can anyone scan it and send it to me so I can print and cut another one?

This machine works so good now I can't believe its 54 years old. Any help would be appreciated.

The gaskets are impossible to find now. Besides, when Whirlpool took over, they sourced ultra thin gaskets that are sort of prone to leaks. The original pre FSP gaskets Maytag sourced were nice and thick.

Clean both mating surfaces with brake clean and use a bead of Permatex or some other form a gasket sealant and let it cure for 24 hours before moving the transmission.

When I rebuilt my HA806 in 2009, the gasket fell into the oil while I was trying to carefully get the trans halves together while indexing the sector gear to mate with the upper trans gear (later learned to apply a silicone sealer to the upper trans housing and apply the gasket to the top cover. This prevents the gasket from falling into the trans oil). Cleaned everything up with brake clean and used Toyota FIPG as a temporary replacement. It's still 100% leak free 15 years later as a daily driver.

Torque the cover bolts to 10 foot pounds.
