I remember back in the mid sixties seeing all three of these brands' washing machines, refrigerators and ranges at the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company's warehouse. They'd deliver, install new appliances purchased from their local stores and remove and haul away the old ones dropping them off for pickup and destruction by the dump. I'd slide under their gates and go crazy with all the many different appliances being tossed and take off timers, pumps, temperature switches...,etc. I liked the Leonard design and wonder if I'm alone or there may be someone here who remembers or even may have one of the Leonards products in our midst?????

I certainly remember Leonard very well. Otasco sold them. They were Kelvinator made machines and Otasco sold them under the Leonard name for many years along with Philco and Tempmaster, a Norge made machine. There were hundreds of those machines everywhere that I lived. They were quite popular machines in my area because it was easy credit at Otasco back in the day. Back then, if you needed appliances on credit, you went to either Otasco or Sears. Of the two, Otasco was easiest to get appliances on credit so they sold many of them. I think all of them that weren't hauled to the dump must have made it to the scrap metal place because I have not seen one in many years now. I lived then and now in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They are all now gone with the wind..

The only places I'd seen Leonard were E.J. Korvets and Hochschild Kohn,a local Baltimore retailer. Hecht Companys own brand, Duracrest, was also made by Kelvinator prior to their merge with Easy,Gibson,Hamilton and Leonard becoming the White Consolidated Industries better known now as Electrolux of Sweden.
