The Ming Green American-Standard tub (cast iron) that was installed in my house when it was built in 1952 has a dulled finish. My mom used cleanser such as Comet or Bab-O, which was rather abrasive in it's earlier versions.
While cast iron tubs have a much thicker coating, stamped steel fixtures coating is much thinner. I've seen several steel tubs that the color is completely worn through.
