Has anyone ever added a potato pulley to a westinghouse slant front? Is it possible? I would think it would improve performance. I've been using my westy now for a month or two and it works alright but I think the clothes in the center don't get as clean as the clothes on the outside.

It might be possible, but would take a lot of work.

The three belt Westinghouse washers with the potato pulley had a completely different idler pulley assembly that had to have a lot of travel to pick up the slack as the potato shape pulley rotated you would have to figure out a way to put that idler, pulley and tension system on the machine.

The real problem with the slant front Westinghouse is, was there really wasn’t much washing action there it just went round and round while it tied the clothing in knots. I remember my aunt had a 1955 slant front Westinghouse she never felt it got things as clean as her old wringer washer.

It does alright

It does an alright job washing. It seems to get the stains out of my socks but I do notice some things end up feeling not as clean and I was hoping the potato pulley would be an easy mod but it sounds like it would be tough. If I ever run into a rusted out potato pulley machine I might still attempt it. I've found if you extend the wash time to 40 minutes everything comes out pretty clean but you have to remember to turn the knob back to the beginning before the first rinse.
