I always preferrred the Addams Family to the Munsters. I adored "Thing" and "Lady Fingers," and Cousin Itt.

Morticia just seemed so well, cool, and Gomez had such passion.

Wednesday was so deadpan, and Pugsley was sweetly diabolical. I think Stewie Griffin is based loosely on Pugsley.

I have NO idea as to why the Addams' Family hasn't been released on dvd yet.

Your turn.

The Munsters for me

Herman was an everyday guy, Lily a housewife. Normal

Their house was way cool, from Grandpa's dungeon to the phone booth/casket in the front hall.

Lily was much more of a MILF than Morticia.

I liked them both, but Munsters are who I woke up early to watch before school. They sort of represented the "average" family. I catch them nights every so often and they still give me a laugh.

Re: Does Anyone Know:

Why did Lurch give Thing a Coke?

Because Things go better with Coke...

But on a more serious note, I liked the Addams Family when they both were Aired and I began watching the Munsters later on, I think when they started Re-Runs.

I think that I will now get me a Coke too.

Addams Family for me

I do like the Munsters but Morticia and Gomez really did it for me and I actually knew a REAL COUSIN IT in college!!
My friend Abby's cousin was 3 feet tall and she grew her hair down to her knees and could comb it so that it covered her entire body! It was Unbelieveable!!
Plus I always wanted a Thing around the house---I have tried and tried to train Aloysius to be Thing but that nose just does not fit down in the boxes!!!!!

The Munsters was more "broad" in appeal, I think. The plots, by and large, were well, dumb. As an adult (!!) I can now appreciate the fact that Fred Gwynne was a comic genius.

Addams Family was a tad more sophisticated: "Tish! That's French!"

Hard to top that.

I agree with Veg, although I do like them both. The Adams Family will be released on DVD, the studios are just seem to be going slowly but surely, which is probably best, that way we don't have to buy them all at once. I've been buying all the old shows DVD's I can find to create a library of wonderful shows we all grew up with.

This month is an exciting (and expensive) month as the following is going to be released:

Bewitched Season 3
I Dream of Jeannie Season 1
The Flying Nun Season 1
Emergency Season 1
Brady Bunch Season 5
Flintsones Season 5

Tidbits....

The guys that put together the Munsters were the producers of "Leave it to Beaver", and as they finished off LITB they immediatly started on the Munsters.

Grant Williams, the "Amazing Shrinking Man" guested on an episode.

Someone has built a house that is an exact duplicate of the Munster home.

The Addams family house shown at the beginning of the show is a painting.

Munster's house

I heard that the still-standing Munster house is on "Wisteria Lane" now but they don't show as it would be too recognizable, perhaps just a few close-up shots now and then. But you would never know it as 1313 Mockingbird Lane.
