Adjusting water level

I just purchased a new Frigidaire top load washer. The problem is that even on the large load water level it only fills just a little over half full. If I try and do a full load the clothes on top don;t even get wet. I called Frigidaire thinking it wasn;t working right and they told me that it was the new government standards for water usage. The washer claims to be SUPER CAPACITY PLUS, but I can only wash 6 towels at once, whereas in my older Kenmore top loader I could was 12 towels at once. I just thought maybe someone on here knows how to adjust the water level somehow to get a higher level. I would be happy with the machine if I could just get it to fill to a higher level. Thanks for anyones help.

You can work around it by hand-holding the water level control at a mid-position between any two settings, or holding it on Reset if it's variable, which should trigger the machine to start filling again. Release the control when the water fills to a sufficiently higher level. You'll have to do it again for the rinse.

The water level control itself may have an adjustment screw to permanently recalibrate it .... but keep in mind if this a new machine any tampering would void the warranty ... AND recalibrating the control for a higher "high" level will ALSO increase the LOW level. If you still want to have a reasonable low level, use the manual work-around described above.

Sorry Solidtubman, Thats the way they fill, Frigilux on here has one as well as myself. Someone on here posted the fill is preset, if the water is to the third row of holes Down from the top, thats it unless you manually hold to reset. Frigilux i hope will see this, it was my understanding there is no way to adjust the Full Fill level.

Thanks for the feed back. I can get it to fill to a higher level by holding the water level knob in between the medium and large setting. But seems to me all I would be doing is standing at the washer waiting for the fill all the time. I am a stay at home dad and do about 14 loads a week here when I can do a regular size load. How many will I have to do now?? LOL Not sure what I am going to do about this, I have 30 days to return the washer. Guess I will have to put up with it or try and find something else that really is super capacity and fills like it should.

That always drove me crazy with the direct drive Whirlpool/Kenmores....they only filled halfway up the auger agitator. To look in the machine one thinks you are getting a huge capacity tub when in reality only 3/4 of it is usable...those wavy fins are just for show...they never touch water or have any purpose.

Sounds like I have less laundry than you. For me its only an issue on king size sheet day. If you have a large family you may want to consider one of the frontloaders. Im thinking we will all be considering them soon whether we want one or not.

I have been doing some looking online and think I will return the Frigidaire and get a Speed Queen. There is a dealer close to me and from checking them out they are still built like tanks. They use metal and not plastic. The frigidaire I have now is ALL plastic. Plus the warranty is great on the Speed Queen 10 years on the transmission. Another feature I like on the speed queen is they still spin/drain, not the neutral drain like the kenmores and frigidaires.

I think that Frigilux used a rubber band to hold the water level control at "reset" so he wouldn't have to stand there and hold the control. He posted a photo of it a month ago or so.....

The SQ Sounds like a good idea, my frigidaire purchase was right after returning to our home after hurricane katrina, our amana sprung a leak, the center seal issue, and i just could not justify spending a lot of money on a washer at that time.

It must be maddening to have to go through all of that just to have the features you want.

Every consumer should have the option to adjust water level to their satisfaction - whether on a top or front loading machine.

I sometimes wonder if these government types dictating this nonsense have ever used a washing machine before.

re water level

my parents bought me my frigidaire in 1994 and had the same problem,but the water came to the last three rows of holes. I could get 12 towles in the machine if i put them in loosley the same way I used to do with my old Maytag.I never liked that washer but it was a free gift from my parents.
to day I have the Frigidaire front load and can do a big load with out any problem and have very clean clothes. do your self a favor get the Frigidaire front load you will like it and save water and detergent and ware on the clothes. I have not lost any buttons from my shirts in almost three years nor do I have to replace towels every couple of years as I did with the top load.
