Well, our friend Westytoploader offered me a extra straight vane agitator for my DD Whirlpool. I thought that sounded like a interesting experiment. So after it made it here all the way from Texas, I just had to put it in the washer and see what would happen. I took some pictures, and I would have dome something about the lid switch, but its still under warranty. So i decided that switching agitators was probably enough for now.

Well thats all for now. One thing was making me wonder, is it normal to have water in the top of the agitator like that?
I was also wondering how to get that scum ring off the white agitator.

Re: Straight Vane Agitator:

Some of the Straight Vane Agitators had a Manual Lint Filter in the middle of them, similar to the ones in the Compact Portable Washers. There should be a Plastic Cover with a Seal that fits over the Bolt in the Middle of the Agitator, that prevents the Water, Detergent, Bleach and Fabric Softener from damaging the Bolt. Your Dual-Action Agitator might have the Cover, it is of a Frosted White Plastic and it has Wing-Like Handles for removing and inserting the Cover. It should be the same size between both Agitators so you could use the Cover from your Dual-Action Agitator on the Straight Vane Agitator center to cover the Bolt. I hope that this helps you with your inquiry.

Well I really have no plans to sell it. After I was done, it went back into the washer.

About the cap, there is one on the other agitator. I jst never thought of putting it on the straight vane.

OK then. I'm looking for a new one for my machine, but I'll probably have to buy new. I can't blame you for keeping it though.

Hi Reggie,

Very fun! The straight-vane is a 2-piece agitator (hence the 2 screws in the center), so it is completely normal for water/detergent to go in the center column. That plastic winged cover is only designed for the Dual-Action agitators, and even then, they are only on the later models; not to protect the bolt, but the agitator dogs from water. Personally I don't think they make any difference; the bolt is rustproof and will do fine.

What do you think of the turnover? Have you experimented with different size loads yet?

Sadly, because the aitation stops when the lid is open, so I haven't been able to see the turnover. I haven't experimanted yet, but will sometime.
