i am looking at restoring my inglis belt drive from 1980. the centrepost is pretty rusty. outer tub may be salageable. a man from an appliance store was nice enough to give me the "guts" of a kenmore machine that was similar so that i have some extra parts except it had the longer style basket drive. it had a really bad centrepost but i managed to pound the old tube out of the base assembly. i am trying to source a stainless tube that is the same dimensions as the old tube that houses the bearings and seals. i have so far rebuilt the donor transmission. it just needed a new cover gasket and some new oil. i am stuck on finding this tube. anyone ever tried something like this to re use an old baseplate ?

Replacing A WP BD Centerpost Tube

Hi Brandon, A guy in NY had a shop replace the center-post on his 1974 WP with a SS tube, I do not know where he got it or who did the work.

We bought a thin SS tube that just fit over the outside of the old CP and tack welded it at the top and bottom, this worked very well, we did four machines this way. A friend at an auto body shop got the SS tubing for us so I am not sure where he found it.

I like the idea of sleveing the old CP better because it is critical that the CB be perfectly perpendicular so welding a new one would have be be carefully done and even though the CP is just pressed in the base-plate at the factory it must fit very tightly, I have even seen the factory CPs come loose.

bearing tools

i disassembled the washer a little bit today. the outer tub is in decent shape some rust but the bottom lip looks to be ok. the centrepost is ok but it looks like the rust near the main tub seal is "bulging" the seal so i hope its ok beneath the seal. i am going to replace the tub seal, drain port seal, tub bolts, bearings and seals , basket drive, and belt, possibly the pump aswell i need to find a bearing installer tool. ebay turns up nothing so far :(
