Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hi Chris .
Great to hear from a fellow Baildonian.
I used to love Shipley too...
The town clock was stuck at 11:26 for years.lol.
Yeah - Westfield . I call it ground zero !
Sunwin house in Bradford and Shipley -Both gone .
Jacksons -gone too.
I have a machine exactly the same as aquarius1984 (hotpoint) above -but it was badged as a Creda 1200.
Had it 10 yrs and its still going -no major probs ever !
Good luck and let us know which washer you went for.
Louis.

Hi Louis,

Where abouts in Baildon did you live? My Mum lives on Baildon green - near Franks Chip Shop, and my Dad lives behind The Angel pub. The clock is STILL stuck at 11:26 lol. They decided it was too expensive to fix it.
Sunwin House in Shipley was Clothing World and is now a pub. Sunwin House in Bradford is now TJ Hughes department store - I live down the street from it. I don't remember Jacksons. Will deffo keep you updated.

kind regards,
Chris

Hi Chris.
I lived in an old weavers cottage on Tentercroft (West Lane ) for a while .
Then, I bought a house in Charlestown (Otley road ) by the Shoulder of mutton pub.
I know The Angel pub and the Malt shovel next to it.
Baildon Green is close to Shipley Glen.
Is that victorian tram running up to the top of Shipley Glen still ? I used to love that ride up and down that hill.
Jacksons was near the top of Darley Street(righthand side walking up)from the city centre.
It was a really good china and glassware shop.
Do you live right in the centre of the city ?
On Sunbridge Road ?
I used to work in Britannia House for years -Bradford City Councils- Directorate of Finance Dept.
Regards.
Louis.

Profile

Hi Louis

Just checking your profile and you mention your mums 1970`s Servis top loader??

Would love to know more about it, what type of agi did it have?? was it a black one or the newer two stage grey?? I think the model would have been MK55, the last one made, are you aware if it had a soap dispenser tray at the back LHS??

ohh questions, cheers, Mike

Hi Louis,

Baildon Green isn't really THAT close to Shipley Glen. It's more lower Baildon. Yes, the tram way is still up and running. I went to school right next to the bottom of that tram. The Malt is my local - I go in there all the time with my Dad. I live oposite centenary square on Broadway. It doesn't get more central than that lol.

all the best,
Chris

Hi Mike.
My mum had a white Servis Top loader poss from 1968-9. I remember it from the 1970's until it passed away 1979 .
It had a pale blue/grey drum and pale blue/grey agitator that had a snap on .
The pullout filter was red and dark blue and situated at the
1 o'clock postion above the drum (looking down ).
The control panel was black with chrome trim and all the 5 dials were chrome - 2 programme timer .
The switches were from left to right -
1. Powder- any or bio.
2.The main wash timer.
3.Thermostat -Cold / warm /handhot/hot/ v. hot.
4.Load size .
5.Spin - short or long.
Im guessing the wash capacity was about 10-12lbs.
No soap dispenser though.
The spin speed was approx 650rpm.
Oh, it also had the Servis badge on the front of the machine.
Ive seen the Servis top loader pic you have ( I think its yours ) pale blue fascia . Its the same except mums was a slightly larger machine.
It had self level/wheels handle under the bottom front of the machine.
Mike ,I loved that machine.
It was taken in part exchange for a front loader.
Hope all this helps. If you have a pic or photo of one then PLEASE let me know. I havent seen one since !
Kindest regards.
Louis.

Hi Chris.
Saltaire Grammar school ?
I went to St Bedes R.C Boys Grammar in Heaton (1976-79)

Ok, so its not that far from Shipley Glen.
Lower Baildon - Yes ,you are right. Sorry Chris.

So you are bang in the centre of Bradford.
I know that centenary square has changed alot.
New bars .etc... No more Odeon though.
Have you decided which washing machine you are going for ?
Kindest regards.
Louis.

Hi Chris,
Hope you got a new machine,

Its amazing to me reading these posts, some of you guys obviously have an encyclopedic knowledge of old machines yet without meaning to be rude know nothing about the reliability/ quality of modern appliances and different makes. Judgement are based on "my aunt had one that lasted for years etc".
But I suppose that is only to be expected unless you are looking at faulty machines 6 days a week.

anyway what did you get in the end?.

My Creda ( Hotpoint re- badged ) 1200 Excel -W120VW.
10 years old and never had any probs.
Probably jinxed it now !
Regards. Louis.
