Advice on New GE OTR Microwave Oven

I'm starting a new thread after being advised to replace my GE PVM9215SF3SS Profile Series microwave (production date July 2013) since the replacement of a bad fuse, then both door switches, then the capacitor, diode and magnetron, did not restore the heating function.  I'm not interested in paying for a new transformer due to the cost and the pattern that has already been established through replacing other components without resolving the problem, nor do I want to remove the cabinet yet another time.  I'm over it.

 

Now my question for those in the know is, does GE still produce a model with the same dimensions that will use the same mounting hardware as my old one?  I was hoping my repairs would be successful and that I could wait until I was ready to rework the OTR area, but now if I can find a GE that pops right onto the existing hardware, that would help to cut both time and expense.  Or maybe the current version(s) of my oven takes hardware that matches the same template that's already in place?

 

I'm doing research but would appreciate any advice about a current GE model that may match up.

I don’t know anything about these OTR MW ovens, but what I’d suggest doing is looking at the installation instructions for the new GE MW your considering and comparing them to the mounting hardware that your current OTR MW uses.

Also, if you happen to have the docs from your current GE OTR MW compare these with the new model you’re considering and also compare the dimensions of the new one and the old one. You very well may be able to discern from these comparisons whether or not your old, already in place mounting hardware will be compatible with the new model.

My guess is that they will probably be a match unless there have been major changes in the newer models. After all, why reinvent the wheel for the mounting hardware?

My GE OTR original 2003/2004 required recutting the cabinetry to accommodate the cord position on a replacement in 2019/2020.  The wall-mount bracket was the same.

A 2015 model at one of RJ's rental properties required recutting to accommodate the cord on a replacement a couple months ago.  The 2015 wall-mount bracket worked but one (or two?) middle tabs on it wouldn't match into the new unit for it to sit properly so we bent them flat downward (or upward?) out of the way.  The far-left and -right tabs were OK.  The bracket could have been changed but we were already irritated at having to hoist the thing up/down a few times for the cord revision.

So ... plan on having to deal with a revised cord position, and possibly swapping the wall-mount bracket.

Eddie, I did look up the installation instructions while waiting for replies here and the illustrations were less than desirable.  It does appear that the mounting bracket is different.  It has only two tabs instead of four like mine does, but I was thinking the same thing as Glenn described above -- maybe I can just bend the two surplus tabs out of the way.   If the new oven requires it's own new bracket, the holes are all there, the wall is already marked and it shouldn't be a big deal. 

 

I'm going to pull up the installation instructions again and take a look at where the cord exits out the top, but from what I can tell there should be ample wiggle room if it's not exactly the same as the old oven.

 

Amazon has this oven with free delivery for $110 less than Lowes or HD, which were $1 apart with their price points and the cheapest I found.  I can pay an additional $14 on Amazon and get a "Two year enhanced protection pack" thrown in (see link). 

 

The model number is nearly the same:  PVM9215SKSS.  I'm all about the knob (similar to what I have now), and I'm happy to retain the sensor cooking options.  The steam cleaning feature is something that my old one doesn't have and I will certainly use. 

 

I'm very much looking forward to reclaiming the kitchen space where the old oven has been sitting and the counter top area where the temporary oven is located.
