Hi chaps,

I bet at least one one of you will know that answer! I need to remove the spin can from the outer tub, I've got the can nut removed but can't remove the can itself, I'm guessing it's mounted on a tapered shaft? Any tips to get it freed up?

Thanks

Ed

Heat it up

Hi Ed looks like a challenge I would try a blow torch. I’ve had best results in confined spaces with a cooks blow torch . In resent weeks a group of us did a colston twintub spinner rebuild . If you want any help email me directly as it was a little tricky . Darren

Thnaks for responding Darren, that was my next move to be honest.... I thought I'd check before attacking it with an open flame! It has been stuck on there since the 60's so I respect it's reluctance to move. I shall try it next time I'm in the workshop.

Hi slowspin66, I'm stripping it down to overhaul it but sadly the outer spin can is beyond redemption, the direct drive cast iron pulley had a crack in it, the internal wiring is shot (although I could repair that) so it's had it really!

That’s a shame really sorry . How did you remove the cap in the spin can ??
What were you needing to do that required a strip down ?? I’ve got to do the bearings on mine at some time ?? RIP lava lux

I made a tool to fit either side of the nut into the little grooves, fixed to a long bar and it spun off pretty easy. It needed a strip down because of all the bitsiI listed before... all the electrics were shot as the old rubber coving the wiring has perished, the spin can bearings need stripping and regreasing, the inside of the outer spin tub is rotten, the casing needs a respray and the spin drive has a crack in it. It'll be stripped and the parts sold to keep others going.

Hi Ed,
Sorry to hear of your problems with the Lavalux - sometimes some machines just need to go to the washer heaven.
If and when you do break it down i am look for a valve lever, only the rod..this literally unscrews. I will pay all costs etc.
Regards
Keith
