Hi All,

My trusty 8 year old AEG OKO Lavamat 72640 has started to play up a little.

I first noticed about 2 months ago that the machine was occasionally pausing during the wash cycle. I have not had time to monitor the machine but today have done a wash and was here throughout the duration of the wash.

Today, I noticed a few times that the machine would pause for about a minute or so during the cycle and once or twice I heard a 'gushing' sound, I went into the kitchen and saw that the machine on clockwise tumble would spin for about 1-2 seconds and continue to tumble. This behaviour is very strange. The machine does indeed spin when it has water in it when it is on the rinse cycle only and spins ani-clockwise but the machine never spins clockwise on its spins or during the wash so it has lead me to suspect that there may be a problem with my machine? This happened halfway through the main wash and the display LED was at around 80 minutes.

It's a great shame if there is as this machine has been absolutely wonderful throughout its time and has never required a repair, it just keeps on going and going!

I am hoping that its just the programmer getting itself a bit confused but by the looks of it, its not a good sign is it?

May I add that after it displayed this behaviour, the machine operated just fine on the remaining part of the wash and rinse cycles.

do not know....

..what you mean by "spins clockwise and anti-clockwise".
Do you mean spin like high speed spin or just rotate/tumble?

These pauses seem to be normal, ours does it as well, it looks like it is "thinking about something" very hard.

In case, I have a service manual around (how to go into diagnosis mode etc.)
Just giv'us a ring.

Joe

When the machine does its normal spins it does this Ani-Clockwise. This unusual behaviour of the machine is now the machine is tumbling too hard at the start of the tumble on Clockwise direction. Normally, the clockwise directions are for the tumbles only.

The pauses that its now doing is not normal. It never used to do this.

Maybe its Zanussi personality is starting to break through? LOL.

Seriously, it might be that the "Advanced Fuzzy Logic" has encountered a certain wash situation where it requires spin washes, which have never previously been required.

Older Zanussis and Tricity-Bendix machines did similar spin washes, that disappeared from later models. My old Zanussi IZ16, only did spin-rinses if the load was very absorbent.

Was the load that you had on at the time, particularly absorbent/fully loaded?

No Rolls Rapide.

I think theres a fault with the programmer. It is not supposed to do this.

It spins when it is on the rinses but not on the washes. It appears that the relay may not be clicking into place correctly which is causing the machine to rotate incorrectly. As for these pauses, it appears to be the programmer just getting confused. It reminds me of a PC when it gets a virus or when a mobile phone gets old, it behaves differently.

The machine was used today and this did not happen. I remember once 2 years ago the machine just stopped in the middle of its first rinse cycle and I had to switch the machine off and start it all over again as the machine just got 'confused' and stopped.

Maybe the wiring loom between the control boards is making poor contact, possibly causing corruption of data.

Or maybe the motor's tacho sensor magnet/coil has slipped on the shaft, or got a loose connection.
