Just wondering if this is any relation to the Frigidaire Affinity ? Very nice modern design.It sort of leaves you wanting to take off all your clothes and enjoy the spin cycle? Yes?

Affinity in Europe

Roscoe, you're right : Electrolux already sells the Affinity rebadged as Rex-Electrolux (but still called "Affinity" ) on the italian market - see link-, so I'm not so surprised about it.
E'lux in this case has just "customized" the american made Affinity with the typical A.E.G. fascia layout.

They look gorgeous ... just wonder what they have "under the skirt" : the "italian" Affinity can't have the extended warranty beyond the default regular 2 years whatever appliance has in EU, while whatever other E'lux group appliance can. Just hope they don't use the AEG badge to sell tin-made stuff as if it were gold ....

The funny side of the story- Here in Europe while Whirlpool is pushing the 24"x24" - 9Kg Carisma series versus the Dreamspace (the 220 Volt Duet version) and BSH is pushing the Axxis (24"x24") rather than the Nexxt (here Logixx 10), Electrolux is going upstream.

They look very stylish but the cycles are a mess. The have like 2 Eco-cycles and 2 steam cycles but not even one cycle for darks or for shirts. I think Miele is here better. I have a cycle for like everything I wear. For sure you can add options so that you would have a darks cycle in the AEG but even BSH offer these cycles. Would appreciate it if AEG would have done the same.

These are built at the Zanussi Porcia factory in Italy and aren't based on the Affinity design. Looking at the exploded diagrams the AEG ProTex is still based on the European Electrolux "HEC" range of machines. (HEC succeeded Nexus as the main construction type a few years ago).

and the sad part is that it will probably take forecer to get to south africa (if ever) and will end up costing a fortune (like all AEGs) if it does. but personally i like the german brands. the price is worth the reliability

I saw a new AEG toploader too yesterday. Very advanced electronics, but on the inside the same materials as the cheapest Zanussi. There is really no difference when it comes to the innards of the machines. I would never dish out a lot of money for an AEG toploader when I would get the same quality from a much cheaper Zanussi.

Zanussi/AEG/Electrolux

I don't think they're that bad. Electrolux at least still seems to have some kind of quality control. At least their machines don't explode unlike certain other makes.

The move of production of BOL machines from Spain to China (Little Swan design and build) is a worrying but inevitable move I feel, however. People just aren't prepared to pay more for a basic machine, which is presumably why the Spanish built Tricity Bendix model was discontinued.

Don't take this personally but zanussi are not all crap, they are hell of alot better than majority of the brands out there. Before i got my aqualtis, my zanussi last over 9yrs with only 2repaires it use do up to 6 loads a week or more, but i guess it depends on the user or maybe i've been lucky, if u buy cheap zanussi machine its not gonna be as good as the high end zanussi, which i owned.

AEG

Wow, very classy looking machines, and matching!!! I love how the fascia extends to the top and is cleanlined, also the fact that the joggle dial has the straight lines & indicator lights for programme selection....

I cant abide those machine dials that have small increments around the dial and you have to line up a very small line with an even smaller one!!! and least with this system you can see easily what you have selected...

I only hope the inside matches the outside perspective...

@aegokocarat

My experience with Zanussi machines doesn't echo yours at all...they're baded Electrolux, Westinghouse or Simpson here...

My Italian made Electrolux 'Jetsystem' is fabulous and the 'Aquasystem' Westinghouse is excellent having managed up to 20 loads a week in the first 3 years of it's life....

@ronhic

mine had been declaired unsafe by trading standards and they said that tha machines quality was flimsy (plastic back cover) zanussi sent out a logistics bloke to pick it up the day my beko arrived. this all in one week i dident expect such drama in such a stresful week and i expected btter quality from zanussi too !

Better to have a plastic back cover than to have a drum with such poor weld that it fails on high spin. The outer tubs still use carboran which is stronger than many lower end manufacturers' thin plastic. The inner drum design hasn't changed since 1990 as far as I know (apart from the size).

Many people expect alot for a small amount of money. Electrolux has had to cut production costs somewhere to remain competitive. Another few years and most Zanussi models may well be of Chinese Little Swan manufacture and we'll be wishing for the days when most were still made in Italy.
