"Flint striker? Huh?" duh..........

Yes Toggles AND bajaespuma, FLINT STRIKER. Its the repair industry slang term for the type of gas ignition system that uses a vibrating coil thru two angled arms, each with a "striker/flint" at the end that acutally and physically makes a "spark" just as in a cigarette lighter to ignite the gas. As soon as the gas ignites, a flame sensor kicks in and shuts off the striker coil until the burner cycles again and the flame need to be lit. GE used this system for many years in place of a standing pilot light until they finally and completely when to the "glo coil" system of ignition. When I get a chance I will post some pictures for the unbelievers on how this system works. I have a couple of new coil/strikers in my parts stash........along with a parts diagram of the system and wiring diagram of it.

What a beautiful find, Jimmy. And even better that you have your dear mom's washer to make the set. Those GE's could not be beat for styling, performance and durability. Wish there were more around. I haven't had a Filter-Flo w/mini basket in 13 years and I miss it every time I do laundry. Even though my Speed Queen is a fine, solid machine, it just isn't the same.

Look forward to more pics.

Interesting sensors too...

Since my dryer is "Versatronic" also I decided to stick my head in to see if mine was similar. Sure enough I have the exact same sensors and thermostats in there too. Can't believe I never noticed them before! I decided to plug her in and fire it up again because it's such a great machine!

Wow!

Hi Jimmy,

What a great find and it is in a great home! I love the back lit control panel. I wish they all had that!
