Grans machine...

Thanks Mike great to be here! I dunno, i don't think it was a Bendix because you can the name on the powder dispenser. Hmm... could be a philco? my uncle had a philco drier and it looked similar. Well, it was very old!

Its something i really wanna know! There is a photo with a corner of the machine in it, i'll dig it out and look for clues!! All the same i would love an old bendix anyways. Even without the square door hehe

'Big Door' bendix

Hi Mark - i think you are right re the modle number of your Hoover dryer - D6216 looks right.

Please, keep spoiling us with those big door bendix's. one of these lived at the back of the home economics room at my secondary school - give you one guess where i sat!
I was right in front of it and one thing i remember was that it was so quiet.
The stacked pair are the ones I also remember from the pub that I mention in my thread over in the other place!

That Bendix range was FAB!! My Mum 's first auto was from that range but very BOL. It had just one dial and no options or fancy features and she loved it. It had the square door and black trim and somewhere I have a photo of it. Initially she wanted the Bendix Home Laundry Centre which was a washer/dryer combo with a rear control panel. Very smart looking unit but she opted for the washer. Great to see those pictures again and what a wonderful thread!!!

Nick,
In responce to your theory of the year running alongside the model that would mean that mine is 83. as mine is a 603. Mike should be able to help with dates the man of all knowledge:p Whats the scoop mike? :p

Darren

Darren yours is a 6033 as Mike said he bought his mum the exact same machine in 1987. as his post above said.

I didnt make myself clear sorry,
im talking about the original 600 3 digit/number series,
600 was 1980
602 1982
603 1983

the 4 digit 6033 like yours came way later and at a guess im working out that its was a 603 1983 plus 3 (the 3 in years) to make it 1986

But I can assure you Darren the Quartz you have is really no more than 20 years old maximum.

Servis in 1985 and the Bendix

Here is a guide from 1985 which shows Darren's 6030. Not sure how long before this, this particular machine was made.

I absolutely love those old Bendix. They were very quiet and quite stable. It had two dials. The one of the left selected the programme and the one on the right was the timer. This was a great idea as it allowed you to start any programme at any point you wanted.

Philco......

Hey Guys

All the Uk Bendix machines above were indeed made in Italy by Philco - They were fantastic machines, super quiet induction motors, large capacity(for their time) and fantastic results.

There was an early 80s ad that illustrated how quiet they were by showing a baby sleeping sat next to a Bendix on spin LOL!!

Re: Philco

Guess the machine could be philco after all... were they realeased around here? Well, i know about the drier my uncle had, it had two knobs... one for heat and one for time. The timer was really a timer, you started the machine by selecting a heat. Bendix drier seems to have the same controls...

One of the reasons I love the Bendix 7147 so much is because it was my mums first automatic washer. Also my aunt bought the 7147 around the same time as my mum. My mums however only lasted 4 years due to me!I would switch the spin from 800 to 400 so I could then put it back on 800 and watch it speed it up again. This put a lot of stress on the drum pulley as it wouldn't slow down to 400 gradually, it would jump straight to 400 from 800.In the end all but one spoke on the pulley had broken.Instead of getting it repaired my parents chucked it!!!! My aunts however went on and on and when they moved to spain they gave it to my cousin. It was still in use up to a couple of years ago when she moved.I dont know what happened to it as im not sure if it broke or if she left it at her old house.

Hoovermatic I think I know which Bendix you mean.I don't know the model number but my best friend had one in the house he moved into in the 1980s. It was just called the Bendix Autowasher rather than de luxe and it just had one dial which was round and black I think.Still had the square door.It went with them to the next house that they moved to in 1987 but then it wasen't there long. Dont know what happened to it but a Hotpoint appeared. Electronic 1000 de luxe. Didn't have a patch on the Bendix.

Heres the pic of the 7147 and 7447 stacked.

Your right, it was called Bendix Autowasher. I remember the day it was bought from Rumbelows in Bristol. It was only a small store and they had just TWO FL's on display; a Candy and the Bendix and the Bendix won hands down as it looked and felt so sturdy. Even the door was metal as opposed to plastic. I don't think they look out of place in the 21st century. Bring 'em back please!!!
