I had a request for some Westinghouse mixer pictures, my camera is about worthless, but you will get the idea..this is from the late 40s thru about 52

Next is 1952 thru about 57
I do have the 57-58 but the only difference is color and it has a beater ejector..the Westy is the one with the big plastic juicer, it is different in that the juicer and bowl are made together, so you dont have to worry with a seperate bowl.

Now for some more..
Westinghouse discontinued stand mixers late in the 50s or early 60s, but they did make a portable on a stand..this is from the mid 60s.

This one was bought in Lenoir NC by a friend of our family, I got it at her estate sale, bought 12,24,54, date written on the box, this was the only mixer she ever had.

There were several versions of these..
This being the last one, about 58.Same basic works, just slightly different, these are some of the fastest most powerful hand mixers, but they look kind of boxy .

From 58 or 59 thru the late 60s
This was their mixer, not as durable as a Sunbeam of the same vintage, but much more powerful, the main issue with them is the plastic shrinks as they age, making the beater ejector stick, I have fixed mine but its tedious.

My Aunts 1947 Westinghouse iron that she started housekeeping with, this was her only iron for many years, she was going to throw it out...I happened to be there and rescued it, it still works great!

The neat thing..
About that juicer, is that is is marked with the amounts on the side,its a simple matter then to remove the juicer and pour out the juice already strained and measured.

<span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">I have a set of Westinghouse bowls that I picked up at a garage sale some time ago but never saw (up close) the mixer that used them. I can remember seeing those mixers on the counters in Lucy's kitchen. The woman I bought the bowls from told me she had very fond memories of her family using their Westinghouse mixer. Apparently, they had a family ritual of making ice cream and she can remember her dad cracking egg after egg into the large bowl preparing the mixture. I guess the mixer was long gone but when she was cleaning out her parents' home she found the bowls. If I had memories like that I'd be more likely to want to keep them but I'm the sappy one in the family.</span>

Westinghouse was well represented in my hometown of Lenoir NC, we had 2 popular dealers, Bernhardt Seagle Hardware co, and Leftwitch Electric Co, both sold tons of stuff..My uncle went to work at Leftwitches in 47 when he got out of the Army Air Corps,he and my Aunt.."Mothers Sister" married that fall, and she ended up with a bunch of Westinghouse products, the iron pictured, a Free Westinghouse sewing machine which she still has and I want!, amd first a Laundromat and a few years later a dryer, when they bought a new Maytag set in 67 we got the dryer which lasted into the early 80s..Lenoir had about any brand of appliance you wanted then, for a small town of about 12,000 or so, we had 2 Philco dealers, 1 Norge dealer, 3 Hotpoint dealers, 1 Crosley dealer, 2 GE dealers, 2 Frigidaire and 1 Monarch dealer, as well as 2 Maytag dealers and 1 Kelvinator, 1 Leonard and 1 Bendix dealer.The difference between then and now, all of them had a good reputation for service and honesty.

Hans, that is a fantastic collection. I like single-brand collections; it's interesting to see the changes in style/design and features through the years. Thanks for sharing all the wonderful photos with us. I'm just glad I don't have to do the dusting at your house!

Hans - your Westinghouse collection is wonderful! I cherish the Westy hand mixer you gave me and always enjoy using it!! Here in Detroit there were dealers of all brands - like in most large cities, but because of the auto industry you saw a lot of Frigidaires, Philcos and a few Kelvinators. I remember growing up and almost everyone close to me worked for Ford Motor Co., and they would have Philco appliances and TV's in their home because they got a discount as a Ford employee.
Can't wait to see all the wonderful additions to your Westinghouse collection!!

I am so in awe of your awesome collection. I too have the first Westinghouse Mixer in your post, the FM-81…I found mine and restored it myself. According to what my research has found the FM-81 was made from 1946 to 1950 (The link below shows a 1946 Westinghouse ad that shows a drawing of the mixer). Next came the second mixer you showed the FM-511 aka the Food Crafter aka The I Love Lucy Mixer which had a very prominent place in episode 6 of I love Lucy where you see Lucy using it to juice oranges. I also have the 1958 portable mixer with the optional stand like you do but mine is pink and missing the bowl…but hey it still makes a great Kitchen display. Oh and here is a link I thought you might be interested in so you can have the proper small bowl for your FM-81……

I'm a big fan of all these small appliance collections
I really like the way the mixers look massed together. The percolators are especially nice since they have a small footprint and don't require a lot of space. I'm thinking of starting a small collection myself, percolators or blenders. I've been watching this Westinghouse on ebay. I think the simple design is attractive and it's easy to imagine it among your collection. Currently 1 bid of $17.50. Shipping from Ohio to my area is less than $20. Thanks for posting your photos.

PS...that very nice in-the-box Westinghouse percolator...there's a scene from Lucy with Ethyl pouring herself a cup from one at the Westport house. One day I'll try and capture a still.
