Interesting

Primus Laundry Equipment Group is headquartered in Gullegem, Belgium with production facilities in Pribor, Czech Republic and Guangzhou, China;

I would read into this a source for low cost (read CHEAP) junk to compete with the junk on the market today.

In other words, Alliance is reaching down market. And that is not a good thing.

If That Is Your Read, Then You Are Incorrect

Primus is actually a TOL commercial laundry equipment producer with a long and well established history. That they have production in China and Eastern Europe is not a huge consequence in terms of "down market", but in reaction to the high labour and other costs associated with Western Europe. IIRC Miele and other commercial and domestic laundry appliance makers from Europe have production in various places outside of the west for similar reasons.

What is going on is the continuation of a long process of consolidation within the commercial/industrial laundry industry. This is happening on both the production and consumer side.

Quite simply the commercial laundry market is shrinking as more and more places that once did laundry in house, now send it to linen services. In turn for many markets more and more of that business is becoming consolidated between several ongoing concerns.

On the smaller side of the market you have growth in OPL market for places that once may have gone to Laundromats and or used a service but find it can be cheaper to do things in house.

Agree with Launderess

You hit the nail on the head with your explanation Launderess: Primus are well known throughout the world in the commercial laundry field.

I own a Skoda Octavia (who are owned by Volkswagen) which is built in the Czech Republic. I've had 6 years of faultless ownership, so i certainly wouldn't classify my car as 'junk' and 'downmarket'.

Maybe Ben you should do some research first before making throwaway comments such as these...

Where I'd install one is only a couple feet from my breaker panel in my unfinished basement. I have a couple unused slots and some extra 2 pole circuit breakers!

I was seriously considering a Huebsch softmount before John brought me one of those SpeedQueen FL's he got. I couldn't quite wrap my head around the $3500 price tag. But man how I wish I had the fully programmable controller so I could tailor my own cycles. Maybe one day I'll integrate an industrial PLC into the SQ.

It All Depends

On which company you work for - If Primus then its a most uncertain move, if its Alliance then they just got a mega distribution deal!!

Washman - please be aware of holding your breath, you may be passed out for a very long time - and you need to update your microchip,
Primus has some of the best commercial washers that have been around for years. I am liking the latest FX ranges!!

Lets pray that Alliance dont devalue a world brand!!

NTGOT, It would be a good thing for for all manufacturers (USA) to have one 220-240v. Model. Housing starts are still in a slump. When the housing market does turn around. It might be time for America's homebuilders to bring our landry rooms up to standard. Would also make a great advertising campaign. Finally something really new! We might as well face it. HE technology is here to stay. Still have my LAT Maytag I plan to hold out as long as I can.

Well...

The mind boggles at the possibilities this opens up. Alliance certainly seems to be expanding like crazy!
