American Made Refrigerators

 A co-woker is currently building a new home.  She is at the choosing the appliance phase of the build and is getting discouraged.  She is looking at side by side refrigerators and has only been able to find 'Made in Mexico" "Made in Korea" "Made in China"

 

Her requirement is for it to be American built.  Does Whirlpool or GE build any refrigerators in the states now?  My Maytag was built in Iowa, but I bought it before the Whirlpool purchase.  Your feedback will be appreciated.

Whirlpool builds nearly all their refrigerators in the U.S. for the U.S. market, with the exception of top-mount freezer models which were recently sent to be made in Mexico.

I half-believe they also recently brought some production back from Mexico to the U.S. of other models, seems I heard something about WP closing a Maytag/Maycor refridge plant in Mexico.

That all said, I think unless your friend is looking for a top mounted freezer fridge, most everything of Whirlpool's is U.S. made. I am not sure about GE.

Oh, the irony!

Haier, a Chinese company, makes 18 cubic foot and larger refrigerators in the USA. I don't know who they OEM for but if it's not sourced by Whirlpool, GE or someone else and says "MADE IN USA", it's probably a Haier.

Whirlpool for now makes the side by sides in the Ft. Smith, Arkansas plant.

My new Whirlpool bottom freezer

was built in the United States. I'm very pleased with it. I would never willingly go back to a top freezer refrigerator.

AMERICAN MADE SXSs

Some WP, MT, Amana, KA, Jenn-Air and GE SXSs are built in the US you just have to look at the model# tag and it will state the country of final assembly. I have never seen a full sized SXS that was made in China. The very best quality SXS you can buy is a Kitchenaid built in refrigerator period.......

As I type sitting here Tuesday a.m. I'm awaiting delivery of our new Frigidaire "all fridge". Last Thursday our all fridge Danby finally gave up the ghost and it was built in 2005. We had to have it repaired once in 07 so I wasn't going to throw anymore money into it. All-fridge fridges aren't that common so none of the stores in town had one in stock except for one and it had wire shelves and we wanted the glass shelves so had to wait. And since they are not that common that gives them license to charge more for one, heck I could have got a nice top or bottom freezer fridge for about the same. But it does have it's benefits,tons of room. I'm not sure where it's made,, didn't ask.
