WOW!
Amazing scans! Thank you!!! Love the Hertz.

My half brothers took a trip to orlando and stayed at the Hard Rock Cafe. At that time there were special edition new "Hertz GT350s" for renting. They got to rent one. Black and gold.

Uh... Such a gorgeous car.

Here is the new reincarnation.

Alan, that's awesome! My question is: is it an ORIGINAL GSX or did he changed it to look like a GSX over the years? And is it a Stage 1??

I ask because there were ONLY 678 GSX's produced in 1970. Of those, only 491 were Saturn yellow. The production breakdown between 4 speed and automatic, along with standard 455 vs Stage 1 makes those combinations very rare indeed!

It is a real GSX

I am pretty sure is is a regular GSX, and not a Stage 1, he had it featured in a car magazine quite a while ago. He sent me some info years back, I kept it. I think he had it in Car and Driver. It's an automatic. I did not get a ride in it when I saw it either!

When Hertz was renting those Shelby's the first time around people would rent them for the weekend. Then over the weekend they would remove the engine from their normal Mustang and swap the engines with the Shelby. They'd return the car to Hertz and since Hertz doesn't inspect close enough to see if the engine was swapped they were none the wiser. Others would just swap tires, rims, etc.

If you've got it, I'd enjoy seeing an ad for a 1971 Mercury Montego/Cyclone, and anything for a 1966-67 full-size Mercury. Those were not technically muscle cars, but they did sell a few sporty models with a 410 V8. Thanks!

Come on Baby, Light my Fire

Hip Hip Hooray for the '70 Stage 1!

Grew up as a tool monkey for Dad, fostering my love for General Motors as he would tinker with his red w/ black vinyl top 70 Stage 1, set up for Stock Eliminator class.

Sadly the car was sold about 8 years ago. The photo below was taken of the car 7 years ago when I found it for sale on eBay. The GS had already been through three sets of hands after Dad sole it in June of '03 by the time it hit eBay, and appreciated 15 percent. He was the second owner, purchasing it in 1974 with 52k, sold it with 54,000 miles on it. Really is a shame as it was a numbers matching car too...

Any ads for a '70-'72 Trans Am?

Come on Baby, Light my Fire!

Wow Ben that is AWESOME... too bad your dad sold the car!

My first car was a '70 Buick Skylark and after owning it a little while I discovered Buick also offered the GS. Since then I've owned a '70 GS 455 and a '71 GS 350 I bought from a junk yard (more in that later if you want to hear it). I also had a '69 GS 400 and a '72 GS 455, but both of those were parts cars.

I wish I still had both the '70 455 and the '71 350, they were both neat cars!

Since I have this ad I figured I might as well post it too!
