Good luck with it. A neighbor has the same washer and they like it ok, especially because it has an agitator, not an impeller. Unfortunately, the only thing in common with my 1984 Maytags is the logo.
Tim, this particular new Maytag is different from the rest of it's modern agitator sibblings. This one has a "filter" device in the center of the agitator. It kind of reminds me of the filter Glenn used to put in the agitator of is F&P.
The agaitator was why I chose it, I don't think I would appreciate a washer which uses an impeller...
Especially since this one seemingly has a very similar amount of room, and the actual lint filter mounted in the center was why I chose it over a couple Whirlpools both of which had removable agitators so you could do washes with an impeller but I knew I would always prefer to leave the agaitor in there and always use with it anyway...
And no front loader looked like it could match the size of the washers at the laundry mat we would take the pet bedding to, all each and every one of them I'd shopped for looked way too small... It looks like we can now do all of our laundry at home!
I did a couple loads of the pet bedding and you specifically have to use the Pet Pro setting to activate the Pet Hair Filter, but there was mainly grass in the load that didn’t get shaken out so that’s what those first loads were rife with even clogging up the sink…
The next load was just all these towels which the washer ably did all of and even all of completely dried in the dryer at just only fifty minutes:
(Decided that was the only thing photo worthy as I’d accidentally spilled more vinegar in the first pet bedding load than had enough for the second in my attempt to do anything Video)
That’s a strange looking agitator for sure! It looks like it has plenty of potential to work well. I found a short video of it on YouTube a while back, and it looked like it used plenty of water, and got respectable turnover. Given these observations, I’d be curious to see how it handles a large comforter. I wonder how the lint filter in this will compare to that of the old Maytag powerfin agitators of the 70’s and 80’s, or to something like a G.E. Filter-Flo filter.
Happy washing,
Thatwasherguy.
I would like to see a full cycle video on youtube. I saw these yesterday at Lowe's here in Nacogdoches. It looks like a top of a whirlpool surgilator cap at first glance until you twist and lift.
I don’t have a YouTube or anyone to really be another set of hands, otherwise I would love to video my machine and how she works…
There is still a bit to learn: in the first load it looked like I could add another garment to it but the lid was locked, so when I shut the washer off to, I cancelled the cycle so it drained out the water it was filing and all the detergent and vinegar so I could only hope when she restarted everything got clean…
Also the drain hose wouldn’t stay clamped on to the side of the laundry tub resulting in water from the second load all over the floor and surrounding areas to in the third load, the hose laying beside and behind the washer all night making a groan until I hung it back up then finally draining out and finish the cycle which was those towels… I have the baby’s clothes and a few of mommy’s clothes in there now but I don’t think I can put the soap in while the washer fills so I’ll pour the right amount if detergent in the dispenser trying it out for the first time then…
I would think the pause button would stop the machine, unlock the lid and allow you to add more items to the load. At least that is how my SQ TR5 operates.
Yes, Dave, as John76 says, press the Start/Pause to interrupt a running cycle and unlock the lid for adding an item, then Start/Pause again (for 1 second) to resume.
Pressing the Power button cancels the cycle, drains, and turns the machine Off.
Congratulations Dave, hopefully you’ll like this machine. Let us know how it compares to the overall performance of your Previous Direct drive, Kenmore. your older dryer will certainly enjoy clothing that spun out better that’s for sure.
When comparing capacity of a top load to a front load washer, you have to double the cubic feet of the frontload machine to get a similar comparison.
There is not a 27 inch wide front load washer made that will not wash twice what your new. Maytag washes in one load things like comforters and bulky coats and jeans are much better done in the front loading machine the load of towels at your show isn’t even half a load of clothes for a typical front loader maybe even 1/3 of a load.
I am eager to hear your comments about the performance of it, thanks.
Well I'm pretty much done learning the ropes and now got the hang of how she ticks...
I even got the draining hose to stay on by clamping it onto one of the water filler pipes...
I wish I could post videos directly here, I use my phone or iPad and manage with one hand, single-hadedly have had some success focusing on important moments in the washing acting n, though I'm not nearly as savvy as you are on what's just washing and using an appliance...
