The Angel who raised me and took care of the house, used to put Ammonia in the laundry. She would add it to loads that couldn't tolerate Clorox. What exactly does Ammonia do in the wash?

Ammonia

I have used it in laundry before. It's good for removing odors, and from what I've read online it is detergent booster.

I swear by the laundry product called "Soilove" for spot and stain removal. It will even work on stains that have already gone through washing and drying that for whatever reason were not treated the first time around. There is a definite amonia smell to this product so I am sure there is a connection between amonia and cleaner laundry.

I use it straight to treat those nasty underarm stains that I get on light colored or white shirts. Seems to do a good job.

It is great for neutralizing body odor, cologne/perfume, and for releasing body soils from fabrics. And it does help whiten & brighten too.

My Grandmother use to put a cap full of Pine-Sol in the laundry at times. Not sure what it did. The sheets always smelled good after she line dried them.

How much Ammonia would you use in a load of wash?

I think I used a 1/2 in my front loader. I poured into the tub before I added the clothes.
