To Amway or not to Amway......

I have never used Amway products. I figured they are an overrated and overpriced (kinda like Dyson and Oreck). I don't think that you can get a non-biased opinion from a distributor, and I've never spoken to anyone here who has purchased their detergent. The folks here are pretty tight-fisted and can't be bothered with fancy-schmancy pricey detergents.

I've seen some of the guys on the forum discuss Amway, but would be interested in opinions as well.

Amway SA8 Premium

Hi Folks,
I like Amway SA8 Premium it does clean well and rinses out superbly but it’s not a patch on Ariel in the UK for stain removal. It does seem good for people with sensitive skin I don’t know whether this is down to its excellent rinse ability or its detergent ingredients which are derived from corn starch.
Just for the record I am an Amway Distributor or IBO (Independent Business Owner), I do not actively sell Amway products to anyone and I do not sponsor anyone, but I do renew my membership each year as it saves me money in the long term.
I hope that is an honest answer for you.

All the best.
Hugh

My mother used Amway SA8 for a while back in the late 1960s or early 1970s. I remember it had a distinctive scent, vaguely recall it was more 'chemical-smelling' than major brands. A tiny measure scoop was included in the box. Cleaning ability / performance? I have no idea. I guess it was OK then or she wouldn't have stuck with it for a period of time.

I used to be a Quixtar(Modern Amway) IBO. I really liked the SA8 products. Especially the arisol(sp) stain remover. My only problem with them(besides being Amway), is that they have too light a scent for me. I like a fresh smelling laundry.

I would probably still use SA8(with a stronger smelling softner) if I could get it without all the hassle of the Amway (oops, Quixtar) sales people.

don't get me started

I used to be an Amway "Distributor" (read: sucker) and I went to all those meetings and to a few of their conventions where they use mind control on you to push their products. It sounded like a good idea at the time but I'm not the pushy salesman type, so I didn't succeed in it. I don't know how Quixstar is but I was in it about 10 years ago when it was still Amway, and instead of getting rich and "going diamond" I spent alot of money, got rejected 100% of the time and was treated like sh*t by the other Amway distributors in my group for not being successful, which almost led to an emotional breakdown.

Otherwise I guess the detergent was good. It made no suds and didn't have much a smell.

SA8: It's a CULT classic.

Brainwashing

Hi Folks,
I actually became an Amway IBO just to get some peace, let me explain my next door neighbor is an IBO. Need I say more?
I do not and will not try to sell any products or try to brainwash others into joining.

All the best.
Hugh

Never tried it either, nor did my folks that I recollect. I do remember the father of one of my grade school friends sold Amway for awhile, other than that I know little to nothing about it other than the company faced huge penalties and customs violations for fudging the numbers on Canadian imports. The only door to door my mom ever bought regularly was Fuller Brush.

SA8

We used it for most of the 80's. SA8 Plus was a wonderful performer. At that time, I worked in a print shop, and my Mom's boyfriend was a truck driver and we both had some dirty clothes. Never had to pretreat anything, but part of the reason for the superb cleaning may have been the Maytag....

Cult is not the word for it

I use to work for the Amway Family on their Yacht “ Enterprise III” as the Chef. The Devos and Van Andel Family were wonderful. But those Double Diamond distributors that came on for there week of luxury was the biggest Joke in the world. I liked using the laundry detergent and the dishwashing liquid and automatic detergent. But I could not stand to talk to one of these people to get the stuff. I had to attended one of thier Convetions in DC and was never so glad to get out of there. They had the crew of the boat on display like hanging meat

I made a big faux pas over Amway.
I was a shift manager at a restaurant, I was going around chatting to customers checking that everything was OK. At one table there was a middle aged lady with a younger man and woman. After a minute or two of conversation the lady said to me, "you seem pretty comfortable talking to people, are you interested in a business opportunity I can tell you about?"
Joking, I said to her, "oh, you don't mean flogging Amway soap or something do you?"
Naturally she did, and her "guests" were people she was trying to recruit... She was quite miffed.

Chris.

My two cents worth

Amway stirs up alot of people in different ways. Even in the areas of politics or religion. I don't go into that, but have used SA8 plus for 20+ years. It is the best I have found. I use other detergents as well for towels and other clothes that don't get too dirty. Nice light citrus smell, and low suds. The detergent used to boast that it would clean out the muck in machines and drains. I have found this to be true. After several wash loads in amway a new vintage find starts spitting out all kinds of gunk in the drain portion. (no, I am not a distributor!) Also, Tryzyme is the best presoak I have ever used, I hardly every use bleach on whites, just soak them overnight in Tryzyme and a little SA8.

For those who are familiar with the inside of Amway, I was in the Britt organization. Bill Britt was like second to the Van Andels and the Devos's. Anyway, Bill is to say the least a complete a-hole. He's every push obnoxious salesperson rolled into one. He claims to be a Christian but his real god is Money, not the same God I worship. He teaches this BS to all his double diamond distributors on down to us peons. They say sh(t rolls downhill well, when you're at the bottom of the pyramid all the mind control, insults, and condescending falls right on top of you.

Oh yeah, and notice how amway recruiters don't tell their prospects that it's Amway? Hmmm...

But even if you were a direct distributor (or whatever the hell it's called today), you're still under their control. Hmmm... Once you go "direct", you're idependant right? WRONG. You still have to report to the higher ups for everything, including life decisions like buying a car.

When you're working a 40 hour week, addon nights and weekends for Amway work. AND even after you "retire" and get rich, that's IF that even happens, you're still a slave to the Amway grind.

The reason Amway salespeople are pushy is because their treated like crap if they don't sell or make positive PV. I've been there.

My final word: The day I quit Amway was a day of rejoicing. I no longer felt guilty if I bought stuff from Wal-Mart. If I didn't make contacts with people and got phone numbers, WHO CARES. And the last thing I said to my upline was (those who don't belive in Christianity please don't take offense) "I'd rather tell people about Jesus than try to sell them this crap." and I walked away.

There are better multilevel marketing businesses out there. There's Primerica (if you know alot about insurance), there's also Ameriplan which seems pretty easy to do. It's a dental/optical/prescription plan and doesn't carry the stigma of Amway. BUT, I'm not a salesman. I'm an artist/computer tech. Artists entertain, not piss people off by trying to sell something.

The Amway detergent sounds interesting to try, but I'd like to get my hands on some without dealing with those salespeople!

And is this the same Amway that makes that Clear Trak/CMS1000 bagless vacuum, basically a WAY-overpriced old-design Fantom in disguise? I read (sales)people's rants and raves about those machines all day. I've seen one in person and it wasn't anything special. Looked like crap to me...I'd save for a DC15 Ball instead.
