An article that actually recommends washing in hot water!

It is a little funny how the wording of the article seems to imply that people may be potentially sharing bath towels, although I think they might just be talking about sharing hand towels. Sharing bath towels isn’t a thing, right?

I hope sharing bath towels isn't a thing... Although I admit a bias: I came out of a family that had a strict policy of 1 use per bath towel before it was washed.

 

But yes, this article does sound like they think towel sharing happens. Especially with lines like this:

 

So if you have multiple family members using a towel, then on the third or forth use it needs to be washed. This goes for hand towels, too.

The only towel sharing that goes on in my bathroom is the hand towel. Everything else is 1 use then in the basket for wash. 

Since getting the new water heater I'm able to supply approx. 145° water to the washer throughout the fill so the actual wash is about 140°.

I don't even care for hand towel sharing. Especially since most people just "christen" their hands in water. Yuck. I keep the kleenex handtowels in the bathroom for guests and regular handtowels for my use that are changed daily.
Hot water, detergent and bleach for any towel. All my towels are white cotton.

I disagree with that article. I think in the cold / flu season, and this year is really bad, hand towels need to be changed every other day if not more often, and bath towels every other use. I wash all towels, wash cloths, hand towels, and kitchen towels in hot water and chlorine bleach, short to normal cycle to minimize cloth damage (I have a SQ top load). I usually soak them for a while then resume the cycle. Most times everything is hung out to dry on a sunny day, cedar and mold pollen be damned.

Cannot stomach or imagine washing towels and sheets only in warm or cold water. After visiting the relatives this year I didn't appreciate towels that smelled like vomit after they got wet. I lived through it, graciously too, but from now on I'm taking my own towels when I go visiting. (My mother would roll over in her grave if she only knew.) LOL.

I only wash towels in hot

water. They have bacteria and dead skin cells on them.

I am a one use, wash person. Call me a water waster. I also use a new wash cloth for showering and one for shaving.

My aunt and her household is a one towel a week. Gross. Sometimes when they visit, my Uncle and Aunt will share the same towel, because the don't want to burden me with extra laundry. OK, then tell me about the trips to the dermatologist because of your constant skin infections.

I know I’m a little crazy but I keep our thankless water heater at 160*. As for towels go’s we only have white towels that get washed in that hot water after every use.

To simplify things

I keep the Speed Queen set on Hot for all washes. The rinse is always cold so at least there is some cleaning going on in the wash. I have not had a problem with any of my clothing or sheets. But I do not buy things that need a cold water wash.
