Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Maybe good for arthritis sufferers, and others with limited mobility?

I suppose it could be used as a plate warmer too.

The need this thing fullfills? That's easy...

...it helps to continue fueling our consumer society, and help with the bottom line of Target and whoever makes that gadget.

the mind boggles in this era of energy saving that someone would come up with this pile of c**p. Thankfully we don't have Le Maison du Target in the UK

Actually,

this item is well known in Japan. Years ago, the tv show "This Old House" did a season in Japan, and these were very common there.

I have no idea why, but still.

The few times I have to do dishes by hand these days, I just put the water-hot dishes in the draining rack and let them dry naturally. The only time/reason for drying dishes with towels is when there is more than one rackful.

Just because a technology is not appropriate in one culture does not make it totally inappropriate.

I see these at the trade shows constantly. What lazy fool would be caught with one of these?I never hand dry anything but always use the heatless dry setting on my dishwasher. The new Turbo-Dry JetDry formula works great.Even on plastics!

Seems stupid

I can just see people buying this thing, consuming energy drying their dishes with this gadget and then turn around and install compact fluorescents in their house to save energy!
I agree that in an age where we should be saving energy, this device seems to waste it.
Asians love gadgetry. I bet this is some Asian gadget dumped on the US market as part of a lump purchase.
"You roundeyes want to buy our electric kettle, steam mop and patio ranterns? You must buy our dishdryer too or no deal!"

What's the point? In three words: Asian germ-phobia.

The Danby portable DW in the other thread is about the same size and washes too!

BTW machine-washed dishes literally have 100x fewer germs than hand washing.

Ya know, actually in cultures where stir-fry, deep-fry, oven-fry and fry in general reign supreme, this may be a way of keeing washed dishes from getting greasy while they hang out to dry.

Everything old is new again

Consumer Reports did a Once-Over of a similar product in the early '60s. It was basically a platform with a heater and blower in it that you put a standard dish drainer on. I think they were a little uncomfortable about putting wet dishes on a non-grounded appliance so close to running water.

As would I be.
