Good stuff sharky!

Saw a microwave oven at a tag-sale of an older woman who slowy lost her sight.

There were three tiny self-stick "bumps" (pencil-erasers in size) stuck to the STOP, START and the number "three" buttons.

I'm guessing she could very quicky set the thing for a three-minute warm-up and, with some thought, adjust from there.

Still amazes me with the seeing-impaired cooking (real cooking not nuking!)

If you get a chance I'd love to hear about more products and services to make life easier/accessible!

Thanks.

Culinary Skills

I am better at eating than cooking, not due to blindness or laziness, but that's who I am, an average microwave American bachellor. The talking microwave does fine for me. As with every other skill or talent, *blind and sighted alike,* some people are just better at it, or have a stronger interest in cooking, than others. As for me? washers are more fun to watch than stoves. True, glad for those folks on here who also love cooking, and especially classic cooking equipment or whichever new gadgets that are of interest.--Laundry Shark

Blind accessibility.

Here in Brazil Whirlpool (Brastemp and Consul) have an excellent program.

When buying any product (and it really includes the whole range, even the cheapest models), a blind just need to contact Whirlpool or any authorized service. All the products have an opional Braille panel, also a battery operated beeper with a built in fan is installed on the ovens's door handles that starts sounding every time the oven's door is open (It makes easier to find the door handle without touching hot surfaces). A blind can guide itself by the beeps and grab the handle safely when feel a jet of cool air on the hands.

Also, the kit comes with an audio version of the user manuals on CD and it includes a training section so users can get used to these special accessibility devices before using the appliance.

Best of all, IT'S ABSOLUTELLY FREE!
