Speaking of mixers, here's a rather old GE hand mixer I found in the house. Complete with rusted beaters that fall out, but the motor still works.

The handle portion is plastic, with the main body which houses the motor and gears, is metal. There's a gray rubber ring around the "face" of the mixer - I guess so it doesn't scratch surfaces when in storage.

I'm guessing, from the power cord, that this was made in the late 40's - early 50's.

Obviously I haven't even tried to clean it up...

A little beach "shack" I sometimes rent in Santa Cruz has a pink version of this mixer (maybe a little newer since it's pink) in a kitchen drawer. The metal plate that mimicks GE's styling of irons of the same vintage was loose on the pink one and kept falling off, but I couldn't help lusting after this cute little mixer. It likely never sees any use as I doubt there are a lot of people heading over to the beach with plans of doing any baking. There used to be a nice early 60's electric knife over there too, still in its original box, but I didn't see it last time I was there. The place tends to be a magnet for people's discards. I was pleased to find the living room had been reworked last time I was there and it was all wagon wheel furniture in perfect condition, complete with easy chair and matching rocker whose flat but somewhat arching arms served as fenders for the wheels.

My mom had one much like that one.

I think hers had a grey switch lever. I don't know anything about when such things were made, but I guess I assumed that she got it as a wedding present in 1959. It was the main mixer that she used up through the 1970s, when it finally died.

Pete, I really like those later versions. They are so Jane Jetson. I passed up a turquoise one a couple of years ago and have regretted it ever since. If I find one, it will be my (well, my partner's) "daily driver." Not that he bakes daily, but you know what I mean.

You know I don't think I've ever used these GE's I've got so many mixers LOL.. I keep a very non descript plain jane Rival in the kitchen drawer which works surprisingly well. For a huge pot of mashed potatoes I use one of the big Sunbeam mixmasters removed from the stand and whip them directly the pot.
The GE's are the most stylish me thinks.

GE

I have one that the paint was so bad on i stripped it and paited it a light sunny yellow sim ilar to Ge stoves of that era
will post pix when i can dig it out
as far as the beaters go u can take the gears out of it and squeeze the slightly to make them tight again

I collect whatever grabs me in the way of small appliances but I think what I have the most of is the GE brand (and of the GE brand what I have the most of are irons) hence my e=mail address [email protected]. Where I am not set up to post pictures I can print my GE part of my appliance catalog (I keep a computer record of all my appliances by type then brand). FYI: Some of the items in the catalog do not have their model numbers listed yet.
