There seems to be a theme for me this month and now I’m finding myself getting tight for space. This machine is definitely one of my older ones and is in remarkably nice condition. Once I get it off the truck I will post more photos and details. This one certainly wins for miles driven (probably won’t do that again).

I present the 1964 Kenmore 70 Suds-saver

This machine looked to be in remarkably good condition so I figured I’d go for it thanks to another member’s posting about it. The price was right at $50 but the drive was grueling at roughly 900 miles traveled to bring this machine home. Damn I’m tired!

The man selling this machine is retired and picked up appliance repair as a hobby. For whatever reason, he decided to clear out all of his appliances, mostly newer machines. I’ll plug her in later and see how things go but so far everything looks really good.

As you can see, it is a suds-saver model with the diverter in place. Lint screen is missing but I’ve seen those pop up from time to time. The cabinet appears clean and rust-free and the panel looks beautiful with no pitting. Model number 110.6405700. Enjoy the pics!

1964 Kenmore 70 series

Very nice Jon, this model and year was always a favorite of mine.

What does it look like underneath ?, how thoroughly did the guy rebuild it?

If you are going to leave it set on Cold-Cold and with a Suds-Saver we can send you an Energy-Star sticker for it.

I know where you can get a lint filter.

This is the bread and butter of washers. Like the Cutlas Cierra of the 80s or the Toyota Corrolla of today. They made a variation of this panel for several years.

I'm seeing a bunch of other interesting things in the background. GE filter pans, agitators, Westinghouse from the 70s.... I'll keep strong psychic energies that yourself and Todd find more cool stuff closer to home.

I appreciate all of the excited responses! Oddly enough, I’m looking forward to a louder belt-drive machine. My others are both skinny-belt models. I will get underneath tomorrow and play with it a bit to see how good or bad it is. My main goal tomorrow is to start breaking down the 74 Ladies and get them done sooner than later. I’ve got plenty to work on this winter now but should be fun!

John, cold/cold suds savers should probably use Arm & Hammer powder detergent right?

Hey Jon I just wanted to say once again congrats on the Kenmore. Seems to be in excellent shape, especially for $50. I'm the one that originally posted about it since it was for sale in my area, but I wasn't going to be available for pickup until Friday, so Jon ended up beating me to the punch.

Awesome that it's a suds-saver model! Can't wait to see it in action!

Congrats, Jon, on a fabulous find.  We seem to be striking it rich lately here on the West Coast.  Always seems like the fun machines turn up in the Midwest or East...let’s hope this trend continues for us!

Have you tried the sud-saver yet?

Sometimes, the valves would either get clogged with lint or they would swell shut.

I know you'll fix it if did.

this seems to be one of those suds-saving models where you didn't have a choice of 'save' or 'drain'.....

two drain hoses, one in the laundry tub(saving all wash water), and one in a stand pipe(for all rinses)....

if you wanted to save the wash water, you inserted the stopper in the sink....

I love these types of manual filters....

Kenmore washer

That is a beautiful washer one of my favorites.A neighbor had the set when I was young. The dial lights up.I am glad that got a good home I considered going after that but I just got a washer from California.Transit sytems is bringing it soon for my nearly completed E-Z Sudsit Laundromat.I have the matching to your washer.Would love to see more pics.

I thought it looked like it should have a light. Guess I’ll be finding a new bulb for it. These Kenmores should be pretty fun machines! This one would be a good wash-in convention demo subject on how to rebuild an older whirlpool

cold/cold suds savers

I think one scoop of Amway SA8 will be plenty or a cap of Xtra. If you want to be extra thrifty you should use the water 4 times.

You sure have soft spot for Kenmores lately, don’t you?

First, the 1974 Lady Kenmore Set, now this beauty right here.

I know you have to rebuild the Lady Kenmore Washer, but can/does this Model 70 run?

It would be cool if there is a dial light. If not, it would be one of very few model 70s from the 1960s that doesn't. I believe the only other models that don't have lights are from 1960 (maybe), and 1962.

My aunt used to buy all kinds of stuff from them. She'd have this big box of laundry detergent with a plastic lining, and scoop it into the triple dispenser on her Lady Kenmore 1972 washer.
