Last week I noticed the SERVICE light in my Sub-Zero at the Roanoke house was flashing. I took the upper grill off and cleaned the coils, which weren't very dirty, and put it back together. I reset the control and everything was fine....for two days....and then the light started flashing again. Both fridge and freezer were holding temp but I called for service anyway. The service man came out and within about 5 minutes he informed me the evaporator was leaking and the compressor was running longer than it should, and he would order the part and be back in a week. I asked him how long the fridge would operate in the present condition, and he said about three months after the light flashed. Well, today he came to install the new evaporator. It took him two and a half hours to do the repair. Since the fridge is still under the sealed system warranty, it only cost me $75 for the repair which wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. We got to talking and was I surprised! By looking at the serial number, he was able to tell this Sub-Zero was made in....are you ready for this???.....MEXICO. He further told me that he is now replacing on average about 8 to 10 evaporators a week! Have we lost another great American company to Mexico? While some of the S-Z products are still being made in Madison WI, some are being manufactured in Mexico. This just makes me SO glad that I bought 4 new Sub-Zeros for the new kitchen in Wytheville!
