We opened our cottage for another season a couple of weeks ago, and it has become a tradition that we switch out stoves in the main kitchen. I only have room for a 30" stove there, so we took out the 1956 Frigidaire and replaced it with a mid-50's Crosley (if anyone knows the year, please let me know).

I've never had the Crosley plugged in prior to installing it in the cottage. It was in a garage, covered with a dirty old tarp when I picked it up a few years ago. Other than putting on a new power cord and giving it a good cleaning, I didn't have to do anything else. It all works (except the clock) beautifully and, so far, has been fun to cook on.

When I first saw this thread I thought it said "Annual Cottage Cheese Exchange." After the mind and a few other once-important parts stop functioning, the eyes are the next thing to go.

The video and of course the new range is wonderful, but you're going to be middle-aged by the time you ever get around to using that nice little 1957 Frigidaire stove.

And that's what the carnival barker says on my Cyclone pinball machine..."ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances"[this post was last edited: 6/4/2014-13:36]

JOE

I like the idea of a cottage cheese exchange! Swap out small curd for large??

I think we will put that '57 Frigidaire in rotation next spring, unless the Crosley konks out first.

As for being middle aged - too late! I'm going to be 50 in three weeks...never thought I'd see the day! As someone once said, "if I knew I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself!"

But you can ACCESSORIZE with Crosley

What is great about Crosley is that you can accessorize! You can add a Crosley refrigerator, a Crosley refrigerator radio with suction cups, or the Crosley "Musical Chef" radio with the timer. How about a Crosley TV or clock radio?
And if vintage Crosley isn't available, you can buy a fun, new Crosley retro radio, phone or the like.
It's time to CROSLEY-IZE your kitchen!

I spend my whole day with spreadsheets, so forgive my addled thoughts, but ...

You have spent so much quality time with so many different units, I wonder if you've ever considered laying out in a methodical way what you like or don't like, or what works and what doesn't, for these different ranges.  I'd love to know your thoughts on the burners (responsiveness, speed), the ovens (evenness of heat, type and quality of the elements, thermostat), the gadgets and goo-gahs (timers, pre-sets), the doors, the knobs, the switches, the lights--all that stuff.  This could include a run-down of major problems as well as major positives.

I'm just weird in wanting that kind of information.  But it would also be a great legacy for future generations!!

If you post the model number, I will try to ascertain the model year for you. Thank you for sharing the exchange. I hope you enjoy the Crosley. Those 7 heat switches should be nice. I think 7 heats would eliminate the need for infinite switches. They will give those two in between heats you sometimes wish you had when you are using a 5 heat switch. Those surface units look nice and flat and should be very responsive. They are probably Chromalox units. I put them in the front positions on my 1954 Frigidaire 30" and they really performed well.

Kevin,

I've been running off at the mouth all over this site and posting way too much...95% of it flushable. But I did want to remind you what "they" say today, "50 is the new 40," so relax kid.

Fun video guys. You can now make Hot Crosley Buns. ... I liked that French Door Frigidaire a lot too... I was thinking maybe there was a burn danger having those two swinging doors open like that, you know with kids hanging around while you're pulling something out.. who knows.. but would be nice.

Kevin,

Glad to see life settled down a bit and you and Ralph are back doing what we all enjoy seeing, life and food at the cottage!  Looking forward to a slew of good cooking videos from the Crosley...

RE Hauling in a Crosley Truck!!

LOL, You know he wasnt driving a Crosley....he got there!!!Most Crosley products were great...not so their vehicles!!LOL They had what was known as a Copper Brazed engine...a welded up sheet metal thing coated with copper some way or another!!Very light and not very dependable...That stove ,on the other hand, is beautiful!
