PROMISE KEPT. - 2 words that were Headline some consumer magazines, and other independent magazines.

Italian Altroconsumo (consumer magazine) tested the Candy GrandOEvo MixPower system.

Since it was very first time someone guarantees both WASH and ENERGY SAVING (not just energy saving like others, because washing machine is here to WASH) - they had to put it on test.

So test started normally, dirty clothes, 2 washing machines, 1 washing at cottons 40, other on Perfect 20. Washing - rinsing - spinning - END. Let's see results - OMFG!!! Results on Perfect 20 load slightly better than Cottons 40!

The only negative side, was that it actually used more water than it should, but that is because of Candy's solution of no wasting time on balancing trash on intermit spins, instead of that comes the with half-of-the-drum water level

I just read the article last week before getting the paper magazine home.
I'm impressed and happy for the guys at Candy. Too bad that they removed the 90°C cycle from the machine, I'd have left it there as I use it once in a while (well, a little more than once in a while!)

Anyway, a water use of 70 litres for a 8 kg load is all right for me! Using less means bad rinsing and Candy machines are notorious for their high (good!) rinse levels!

On all Candy GrandOEvo washing machines there is a 90 degree boilwash available, on Cottons cycle
You can download the user manual of some of them from their website to proove it

Are there any photos of the inside of this machines. I'm curious s on how the mix power system works.

Seeing the inside tells allot of the quality and reliability. More photos of the insides is what I want to see more here.

How mix power system works

Hi Picasa,

There is a video in the link that detailly explains Mix Power system.
It's not only about the spray that makes washing at 20 = 40, it is also longer duration of cycle, and faster tumbles

About reliability, I don't have any images of inside, but if guarantee can be a face of reliability, I must say they are (at least here) quite good on that. In Italy, and Serbia, as far as I know Chezc republic and some other countries Candy is on 5year full guarantee, and In italy there were promotions for 10!
Here is a link, that is unfortunatley on German, however I hope you can get it. In factory, Candy projects their washing machines to last around 10 years (more/less).

This reminds me of the powerfoam system that Top of the Line Samsung washers have.

Is this any different from that?

Because Samsung just makes foam (called EcoBubble in Europe), but this has nothing to do with foam - it is spraying a liquid high-concentrated mix of water and detergent directly on clothes

I like washing machines that have a shower spray or jet system. My LG has a shower spray system too, its pretty much the same thing as once its filled the shower spray starts and the detergent concentrated water is sprayed onto the clothes. The shower spray is on all the time except when heating, spinning and when the drum is stationary on certain cycles.

What the articles don't mention however

A vast majority of Candy Machines drums break whilst spinning, resulting in damage to the kitchen.
The drum lifters, don't actually lift the laundry, they too shallow and not long enough.
The motor is very loud especially on spin.
The form & detergent mixer has no coating so Limescale will build up inside, as will detergent residue which makes it way into rinsing, resulting in poorer rinses.

Other than that,
think they are pretty good machines, but I wouldn't buy one.
I also like how there is the option to use a standard cycle without spray.
I also like how they have a Large display.
But the UK won't get the very good ones, I have so far only seen a very basic one here, just like all the previous Candy's. It would be nice if they do, we can see what Which? report on them.

Of the hundreds of thousands of Candy (and Hoover) machines made, how many have been reported as failing?

I LEVO this machine... opps... reshuffling... LOVE!

I adore the EVO range... I keep thinking about replacing my Hoover with one of these, but I'm so affectionate to it!! Maybe I'll put the Hoover in the spare room :-D

'Glenfield', I know 'Candy' has shoved all their basic range in the past over here... however EVO is available in the UK and it has been for quite some months. Shame their EVO dishwashers aren't :-(

I know we tend to like jet system models as they are pretty spectacular to watch... but I often think there is very little practical benefit brought to washables... if any at all! What I like about the power mix system is the fact that it doesn't actually pee on your laundry for the whole duration of the cycle... its purpose is to spray the detergent solution over your laundry only during a particular phase of the wash process, it's not the typical system where the entire wash water is being recycled over and over again, but a small quantity of the same which enables the detergent to suffice, assuring enough concentration for it to be distributed in a uniform fashion over the clothes.

As for the bursting drums... naahh... that's an optional extra only available on some models LOL

Spraying the load

Haxisfan, I hope you won't be disappointed with this, but It is actually "peing" on clothes a little longer than you expected
At the start of the cycle, of course, in the parts of main wash where it tumbles normally, and heats it doesn't spray, but whenever it gets to distribution (a little faster actually - 100rpm) it sprays water on clothes, those fases usually last around 1 minute, and then it calms down, tumbles again for few minutes (10-15 I think) and then again 100rpm+spray etc

It is on at BEGINNING of every rinse too for 2 reasons:
1. To clean itself up of detergent
2. Makes clothes get wet quicker
But as soon as filling is over, the jet stops, and machine rinses normally (letting detergent to sattle down).

Seeing the videos and whit no other information it looks like just another system with a recirculation pump. If it just takes water from the tube and sprays it on the laundry its the same system invented by Zanussi.

I have a AEG 74950 with recirculation pump and like I it but its real effect on cleaning is yet to be proven.

I think that out of a million machines made in a year, the failed ones were just 4 or 5! so that makes the problem virtually non-existent!
Also I don't recall my machine ever exploding...

Also if you want a silent machine get an inverter drive induction machine and not one with an universal (carbon brushes) motor! They are silent! You get what you pay for!

Actually, the video in the link is for customers - non washing machine professional people. That jet system works pretty much the same as Electrolux,LG, or whatever brand has them with one difference - it's that it is spraying much wider.
To make it 20 wash same as 40, a lot of other parts on programmes are changed, so yes - to see it all, it has to be filmed detailly while working

Disappointed not!

Nrones, in reply to your earlier comment, I'm not disappointed at all. I have seen it in the works and while you're saying that the jet is activated a little longer than I expected, I can still appreciate the way it operates. It seemed more like a gentle mist to me... being enabled only during some specific moments in the wash process rather then being permanently on for the whole duration of the wash programme.

Something I forgot to mention earlier... as much as I like this washer, I am still a bit perplexed by the use of cold temperatures. Maybe the test revealed great results, however I feel that when it comes to using cold temperatures the real results are shown in the long term: one wash cycle just isn't enough. Still, I understand that this washer can be used with all temperatures... so it can still be mine

Let me get this straight: is the point of the Perfect Mix system just to thoroughly dissolve the detergent at lower temperatures thereby facilitating cleaning? If so, are they doing anything about actually flushing powdered detergent from the dispenser in the first place? Having been to see my parents at the weekend I took a look a look at their Hoover Optima's drawer only to find a massive chunk of powder just sitting there - so much so that there was a pool of water in front of the undissolved powder! Admittedly, they will insist on using a budget powder that left clumps even in the previous hot-fill machine (I find cold fill on any machine causes poor dispensing of powders).

 

That issue aside, I'd agree it's nothing particularly new. I'd also be concerned about the execution of the design: Candy so often has great ideas let down by inadequate components. Have they beefed up the pump (are there 2 pumps?) and are the bearings up to more frequent high-speed revolutions? Adding a pumped recirculation system always adds another element to go wrong it seems...

 

Anyway, they're nice and fun looking machines - I'd have one as a playing if nothing else!
