I've been reading these posts about automatic roasters.  My wife and I have seriously considered purchasing one.  Would one of the automatic roasters be good for roasting a rib roast in?  Thank you.  Jim

yep think of it as a second oven you can bake in it like a oven cakes bread you name it. But you can also slow cook in it or make soup stew and anything else you can in a pot. Nice part I like about them in the summer you can use it ouside to keep the inside cool.

I just saw a vintage Westinghouse yesterday complete with cabinet base that has a built-in timer clock.  It was at Salvation Army in the boutique section and way over-priced, but a nice unit none the less.

Any Meat is Perfect

I find that any meat cooks beautifully in them, and like it was mentioned before,
you can cook outside, and keep the heat out there! Best investment you could make.

I say buy one any of them even the new ones at walmart are great. I have had old and new ones they all cook the same. My take if I am going to use the heck out of it I like new since it is cheaper then old.

If you need a cart I found a old metal cart at a junk shop the old metal white 3 shelf and a set of plugs on it to plug things in for like 5 bucks and gave it a coat of new paint works great.

Also if looking for one see what racks come with it there are differnt types of racks. I like the one you can say put a roast on the bottom and then a rack above it to make cakes or dinner rolls.

Thanks everyone...

for your advise!  I'm looking at a Hamilton Beach at Wal-Mart and one at Macy's (but I can't recall the name of it).  I'm thinking I saw a Kenmore at K-mart...but I might be mistaken.  Sounds like it would be a great investment for sure!

Why in the world would anyone want to buy a tub-o-crap roaster oven?

You can cook your turkey or whatever in your real oven, take it out, cover it with foil, cook your side dishes and be golden.

Iowegian,

I've read quite a few of your posts and I feel that you're a very rude person.  Why do you feel the need to belittle someone for doing something that works for them?  Just because you would rather use a regular oven vs. an electric roaster doesn't mean that you are the only one doing it the "right way".  If you're such an intelligent person, why do you not have your profile filled out completely?  I don't usually respond to idiots of your ilk, but I just couldn't stand by any longer and read your nasty posts.  Let the flame war begin!

Another vote . . .

For the ability to cook out of the kitchen with a roaster oven - we often put it on the washer or dryer in the garage. The roaster can sit there for hours on low heat and not add to the heat in the kitchen. Ours is a fairly new Hamilton Beach, can't recall where it came from but it wasn't expensive as we didn't know if we'd use it. We sure do and are very happy with it.
