Just listed a house in my area and found a GE Filter Flo that was just begging for a rescue. I am guessing it to be from the very late 70's since it has the white straight vane agitator and the background of the control panel was gold, not the brown associated with the 1980's. Other than being in need of a good scrubbing, there is no visible rust anywhere and looks to be in good overall cosmetic condition. Surprising on the rust since it was in a typically damp musty basement. The obvious issues:
- it is missing the mini basket. Not sure where I will find one of those.
- I field tested it with a small load water level. Thought we were doing fine, then looked behind the machine at the end and noticed a nice puddle of water. So back for another test - not sure if it is a leaking hose, pump, boot or the dreaded outer tub leak. I will try to go back while I am off work this week to remove the back and take a closer look.
It would be a shame if this machine couldn't be saved.
I do have a question for the group at large. In this machine, can the turquoise "high" straight vane activator be substituted for the white one? For some reason I actually have one of those and I might even have the turquoise hard plastic mini basket.
The model number is WWA8364P and the serial number is GH1-71831G.
There was also a matching dryer, but strangely enough that was the appliance that had big rust patches on the bottom just under the door. Wonder what happened there...
