I was thinking this morning, how rubbish are todays detergent ads? which set me thinking of the old ones.

What detergent/washing machine ads had music to accompany them?

All I remeber is....

Ariston and on and on and on and break down a zillion times so the repair man will keep coming and on and on and on and on and on to the tune of TRIOs "Da Da Da" if I remember correctly?

Jackie Wilsons rendition of Its soooooo fiiiiiiiine to Persil Micro in the early 90s.

Surf in the UK used "Wipeout" for a while i remember to advetise their products.

and The Hollies "Air that i Breathe" to the Comfort ads of the late 90s. who remebers Comfort Country Garden? mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! even my mum swapped Lenor for that stuff. and she is a supermarket own label or Lenor DIE HARDER!

Hi Nick

Have you seen this website? Unfortunately, it's down at the moment but it's normally great.

It has an old persil ad from 1983. It shows a dance routine, with quick clips of washers of the time. It has other detergent ads as well. This is a great vintage TV site.

Rob i do know of that site however ive yet to visit it. But there was a book at college that had a chapter on how that particular persil ad was made. It was an advertising text book. Am due at the college on thursday so will try to find the title of it. Exciting stuff eh? It even had the pics of the washers of the time and pics of the ad.
