Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

It's a STANDING invitation - anytime!

This was a good save, a beautiful machine in porcelain.

I'll bet there were a lot of families that sought out their local Hotpoint dealer and said " We want the washer Harriet Nelson has!" And the next time, they bought a Maytag. LOL.

The original 1956 pump is shot. Bearings, seal, etc. Unfortunately, it doesn't use the same style pump as the later SQ washers. While they look similar, the Hotpoint is totally different. The shaft diameter is smaller than the later stuff, meaning I can't swap seals in from a later pump as well.

I've thought about leaving the pump in place to allow the drive system to remain intact, and wire in an electrical pump to take care of water removal.

Someday....

Redundancy will dimish the message

but that's a beautiful looking washer...I like the simple lines and the design where the control is hooded a little by the lighted panel and the single wrap of chrome trim brings zen-like feeling to the unit. Do you already have a matching dryer or will be looking for one? It's cool that you were able to see that on CL and grab it quickly - these old machines come and go in minutes on CL...er, as you already know, so yay for you.
