I found an Ekco Pressure Cooker (non elect) for $1, this past weekend.

It has no rubber seal. Question 1- Do ALL PC's regardless of brand have these rubber seals?

Well the lid got stuck kinda screwy on it, half on/half open (hard to 'splain)

It wont budge. Any thoughts/ideas on how to get it unstuck?
I've tried hot water, soap...nada.

rubber gaskets

Yes...I have several PC...love them..I have an old mirror from the 40's..it has a cork type seal..and a rather complicated looking valve assembly. All the others I have all have rubber gaskets. If you run into trouble finding the right gaskets..check at a mom and pop hardward store..also pick up a new fuse or two..ya never know when your going to blow one..fuse that is. have fun!!!!PC cooking is awsome!!...psss if you cant get that lid off..try putting her in the freezer for a bit.

Toggles...

Behave boi...

Either you can't stop, or I have a dirty mind. Probably both.

Hmm, this will be interesting to find a gasket. I can't even find ANYTHING on the internet about this model. It's Hecho en Mexico...figures.

No wonder the damn thing was so cheap.

Thanks washerboy...

Into the freezer it will go...if it doesn't come off then, it goes in the dumpster.

Flex those PC muscles

Pressure cookers are the bomb (sometimes literally). Where else can you do a pot roast in less than an hour?

I am catching on to the Crock Pot thing. I like coming home and there's food ready to eat.

There's also some prepackaged dinners you can buy at the store

Please be careful when operating. My mom's blew up...2nd and 3rd degree burns all over....tomato sauce all over the kitchen!

It was a horror show. She healed quickly, thanks to God, but not without a lot of pain.

Re the stuck lid, brute force is probably the only thing that's going to dislodge the cover. I did that once with my presto putting the lid back without the gasket and it got stuck halfway.

New pressure cookers, those made in the last 10 or so years will NOT explode. They have enough safety plugs and gaskets to make it impossible. I have 3 but I'm getting to like my electric one with "fuzzy logic" the most..just put the food in, push a button for the type of food and voila, no guesswork, no timing.

If you are h-ll bent on a vintage pc

Use the sideburner on your bbq pit, at least for a test run, works well in summer too around here the cooking smell is all outside. We have a fagor I won on the bay. I always read the recipes you members post. I had a presto that the seal was worn and burst out about 1 inch between the top and the pot, On a New years day, yep it was a pork roast. but at least it was almost done, they can make a horrible mess and cause injury though. I would say if you have kids underfoot the kitchen should be off limits while its in use. After the presto incident, i was gun shy for about 5 years, so far the fagor works very well.
